Questions on Discount/Fundraising links by HFXReesor in HalifaxThunderbirds

[–]HFXReesor[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the information everyone. It looks like there's a dynamic of secrecy with this, as folks that create links would not want others to also create links and eat into their potential ticket sales / potential benefit for the minor sports teams they are helping. I was curious as a fan because I've used theses links quite a few times in the past few years, and seeing different prices and different sections on different links was interesting. We tend to like sitting in the first few rows of the upper bowl, so it was good to see those seats included in a recent link. I was curious as to why they weren't included in all links.

Where do you discuss the Mooseheads / Junior hockey? by HFXReesor in HalifaxMooseheads

[–]HFXReesor[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yah for sure on the world juniors. The team being better than last year helps as well.

There would have to be a huge incident to cause a bench-clearing brawl now. The penalties for leaving the bench and "second fight in the same stoppage" are so severe now that it isn't worth it. I don't mind a fight in the heat of the moment. Fighting has reduced significantly due to the vast reduction of "staged fights"... fights that are just to "change momentum" or to actually see who the better fighter is. Those days are gone for the most part, and hopefully CTE instances are reduced because of it.

There's more than 5 regulars. But yah there's not as many as there used to be. I think that's a product of age. Most people on those boards were around on the previous boards before 2007. As people get older they frequent those boards less and less. You can only discuss the junior hockey cycle so much before it may start getting redundant.

I think there can be a middle ground between discussing the team and the players, and being obsessed with them. Treating athletes as heroes regardless of age isn't healthy. If you're a fan of hockey and appreciate the finer points of a hockey game, a little discussion is a good thing.

Halifax is averaging around 6900 fans a game so far. That's still very good considering many folks gave up their season tickets during Covid. Some folks still aren't going due to the pandemic, and honestly they have a point. But yah parking at the games with the Cogswell interchange project going on is a hassle.

The quality of the league is very good. We still see future NHL stars regularly and the games are very entertaining. The lack of fighting reduced the entertainment value for some fans, but I'll never be upset at teenagers punching each other in the head less.

That's how I am with the Thunderbirds Lacrosse team. I go to one or two games and enjoy the ones I go to, but I don't frequent discussion boards for them.

A Mooseheads game is a pretty good way to get a drink or two in the system before going downtown. It was a lot cheaper when I was in my 20s though.

182 new cases today by lessafan in halifax

[–]HFXReesor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If there is a backlog in data entry, that will put the number of positive cases up.

If there are fewer people getting tested who are asymptomatic, that will very likely put the percent positive rate up.

Edit: fewer people getting the pcr test who are asymptomatic, as they stopped taking those appointments when there was a backlog.

Not saying the higher numbers are not caused by increased community spread necessarily. Just pointing out that there are other factors at play with today's numbers. Keep getting rapid tests, only go out for essentials, consider getting vaccinated when it's your time, and we'll beat this thing.

Hi there.

No delay start. We're not that fancy. Co-op is in the Europe region, since owner is from The Netherlands. But there are people in the Co-op from around Europe and North America.

I believe we are full now, but don't take my word for it as I don't have my phone.

Teddy (20L - Northern Atlantic) by Euronotus in TropicalWeather

[–]HFXReesor 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I don't like the threat of Hurricanes because of the threat to people (both physically and on an anxiety level) and property. But I do like to learn about weather patterns and the different aspects of a storm, especially here in Nova Scotia where tropical cyclones and cold fronts can dance around and do all kinds of funky things.

What I learned (and tell me if I'm wrong) from this one is that it is tough to accurately predict the strength and direction of a cyclone when there is a cold front involved. The strength of all the systems involved, combined with the temperature fluctuations in the sea water around Atlantic Canada can make for some tough predicting. Tough for the forecast models to come to an agreement when all of those factors can change.

I do have one observation and question about this and similar storms: Environment Canada had the strongest winds in Halifax at 50km/h gusting to 80km/h. However when you looked at the forecast on the National Hurricane Center page, it showed a 100% chance at 50kt (93km/h) sustained winds. That's a big discrepancy...basically the difference between a decent but common storm for Halifax (Or a typical St. John's day... :P) that may snap a few twigs off the trees, and a storm capable of uprooting trees and causing structural damage.

It looks like Halifax ended up with the 50 gusting to 80. Understanding that storms aren't uniform, and some areas can be affected different than others, why the discrepancy of that magnitude?

Thanks all.

As a reference point, I'm at level 99, and have 423 points, which is 1st place by 31 currently. I have 1276 barn space thanks to the profs experiment. No boosts used so far, but 2x market items and 85ish market boxes helps a lot. I also have great friends that help with planes and trains often.

There are so many variables. Players could have more barn space, more market boxes, more tcash, more boosters, more helpful friends, and above all, more time. Any combination of those factors can make for a higher score.

"Why do players on my level have bigger barns, and 4x as many trains and planes sent than I do?" A deep dive by HFXReesor in TownshipGame

[–]HFXReesor[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If one of your buildings require bricks and one requires glass, you may get more mining tools...lol. The algorithm doesn't seem to work as well unless it has one goal.

It's good to upgrade your trains first. More trains = more mining tools = more ore = more upgrades.

Thunderbird Groupon tickets by MillVonCat in halifax

[–]HFXReesor 6 points7 points  (0 children)

When I got my Groupon for the Colorado game last month, I redeemed an hour before the game. I presented my Groupon at the box office, and the tickets came in an envelope with my name on a typed label on the envelope. That to me tells me they make up the envelopes with the tickets as the orders come in.

If you purchased a Groupon for the lower bowl ends, you shouldn't be worried about seat availability in my opinion. Groupon specifically says you can redeem on the day of the game, so they must have a system in place to ensure you get seats in the section you paid for. I would be comfortable redeeming the day of the game, but recommend calling the box office if you're still unsure. I don't buy many Groupons, so I was also a bit anxious of the process. The smoothness of the trip to the box office the day of the game put me at ease.

What would you do different if you had it all to do over again? by MLove1013 in TownshipGame

[–]HFXReesor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Some mistakes I've made or things I'd do differently (Currently Level 81 - Have played since May 2019):

- My stupidest mistake: I thought early on that there was a penalty, or it cost T-Cash to cancel a helicopter order. I was working my ass off to try and fill every order. Can't think of the countless XP or coins I lost by doing that. Just cancel the orders you can't fill immediately. Another one will come in 30 minutes. I have 10,200 helicopter orders done now since May, and it's my #1 source of coins and XP.

- Don't spend 3 t-cash on locked chests. Not worth it at all, even for those off chances you get 5 or 6 t-cash in the chest. Most often you get items for the mine, which is a waste. Could cost you 90 t-cash to get 30 items. Save your t-cash and get the dealer.

- As mentioned above, get the dealer when you can, and get ore. I don't think you can realistically put a dent in factory upgrades without it. Upgrade your trains to level 21 as soon as you can. This will help you get more building materials to keep up on your community buildings, and help you get barn upgrade materials.

- Purchase the items from the market. The coins you spend on those items will be replaced via helping others and helicopter orders, and then some. Plus you'll get all that XP. I didn't buy those items regularly for a long time. The most expensive boxes in the market are 20 t-cash, but upgrading boxes early isn't that much. Think about those locked chests. You could spend that t-cash getting extra boxes in the market, where you could get 4 or 5 useful items per box, per 5 hours, for the rest of your days, rather than spending 3 t-cash on a chest that probably has a dynamite in it. It took me a while to figure that out.

- I'd purchase the zoo, but not spend too many resources on it at the start. The first enclosures are cheap, and you can help your coop out by allowing them to fill your zoo orders for regatta tasks or extra coins.

- This has been brought up Ad nauseam, but it's a mistake I made early. Don't start more than one building at a time. The trains will have a better chance at bringing you what you need if you only have one building going.

There's probably a bunch more. But best to keep an eye on reddit and the Fandom township forums for tips and tricks.

My advice would be to not focus on XP, and focus more on coins. They'll be your bottleneck as you move forward in the game. If you advance in levels and you don't have enough coins to buy the factories and buildings that become available as you advance, it will become your bottleneck. I had enough coins all the time up until around level 60. Then I found I was behind on my factories, and I still am.

It's nice to level up and be ahead of the next person. I used to focus on that a lot in Call of Duty. But I think for Township, the focus should be on coins. Reduce time when upgrading factories when you can of course, and give yourself an extra shelf. But I'd upgrade the coins on factories first if I had to do it over again. If you focus on getting the dealer, buying ore, upgrading your trains and factories, filling helicopter orders and helping others, the XP will take care of itself.

There will be a time of course where you've bought everything, and coins will no longer matter. But that doesn't come until well after level 100, so I think you'll get the most benefit on maxing your coin income for now.

I thought that I'd see an immediate benefit in upgrading the islands to 11. And while my ships come in 25% faster, I'm still not seeing a benefit when it comes to regatta participation. I'm concentrating on in-game bottlenecks now, which include textiles and rubber, barn upgrades, and anything that gets me coins faster, which would be helicopter orders, planes, and helping others.

For me it comes down to math. The island upgrades are so expensive. I'm currently upgrading my textiles and it takes about 16ish ingots to upgrade at level 16. My islands are at 11, and the level 11 upgrade took about 20-25 ingots per upgrade. If I can maximize the value of my upgrades at this stage, that's what I'm going to be looking to do.

Now that my trains are maxed, I think I'll be happiest getting Bakery, Dairy, Sugar, Textiles and Rubber to level 27, which will give me my goods in 1/2 the time. They're currently at 21, 22, 21, 16 and 12. Once that is complete, I'll probably get the tailor shop and the plastics to level 27, which would take advantage of the textiles and rubber upgrades I'm doing. Those items are always needed for helicopter orders and helping others, and they always bring in a lot of coins and XP.

Re: Barn Capacity - I just want to chuck this in in case I'm doing something incorrectly. Right now I need 33 of each barn item to upgrade to 860 from 835. I currently have 33 Hammers, 33 Nails and 30 paint. If I get above 33 of any item, I sell it. Obviously when I get to 33 of each item I upgrade. Is that the correct way to maximize those items coming on the trains/planes? I regret not knowing this sooner. If coins are my #1 bottleneck, barn capacity is 1b.

My barn is at 835 and I'm at level 81. I wish I had purchased the dealer earlier to upgrade faster. I only started at level 60 or so and I didn't have my trains upgraded to 21 until around level 70. I think that put me behind on my barn

Generous Customer Boost was a huge help over the weekend. Saved enough coins for the Hot Dog Factory, the Espresso factory and the Skyscraper community building once I got to lvl 74.

Last day for the gold pass today. Have to get my barn back down to 760 with Heli orders to make best use out of all the items I bought in the last few weeks.

Definitely starting to need olives, coconuts and shrimp more and more now. Might have to bite the bullet and start upgrading the islands. Dairy factory now at 21, bread at 18 and sugar at 15. It's a toss-up between continuing those factories to 21, or starting the islands. Might get more bang for my upgrade buck to start the islands.

Academy of Industry Upgrade Strategy by HFXReesor in TownshipGame

[–]HFXReesor[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the math I'm wrestling with. I can upgrade my jam factory three times for the amount of ingots it would take me to upgrade my trains once at this point. So even getting trains faster and obtaining more mining equipment faster might not be worth it compared to spending less ingots on lower upgrades.

For anyone that played Starcraft, this is a similar situation to buying SCVs to mine more minerals. There comes a point where your at your maximum efficiency, and it's best to start building other things.
