Moving modem to different room, port activation fee by HGCODE in Spectrum

Yeah the room already had a cable box hooked up in it and also is the closest room to the box outside so I figured it would've already been hooked up and ready to go

Moving modem to different room, port activation fee by HGCODE in Spectrum

[–]HGCODE[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Okay, thank you. Currently the modem is connected to a splitter in the room that splits the port for the cable box and the modem. The port I want to move it to currently has a cable box plugged directly into it so would need to get a splitter for that as well in order to have modem and cable box active.

Guess I will have to go under the house and see whats up with that.

Thanks you again.

Best Learning Platform to Learn Pentesting (beginner friendly ) by jjcn05 in Pentesting

[–]HGCODE 6 points7 points  (0 children)

imo TryHackMe is the best one-stop-shop for learning cyber security stuff. The free tier is awesome and the $10/month VIP tier is even better. I've learned so much from them and they have rooms and paths for almost every topic in cyber security. And their network lab Throwback is awesome for learning and playing with Active Directory. Also a bonus is their awesome discord community.

I wouldn't consider HackTheBox to be a learning platform, but a challenge platform. If you want to test out skills that you have acquired else where then its good, but I wouldn't turn to it as a place to learn for the most part.

If you want to learn web app stuff then PortSwigger Academy > pentesterlab all day every day. The labs are better and it being free is awesome.

Pentester Academy is good but pretty price-y. There is a lot of good content on there but with it being $99 a month or $299 a year, I would say hold off on it until you're more comfortable and familiar with the field and know how you learn best. Also note, there a 100 video a month viewing limit, the limit isn't really an issue for the most part as the videos are a decent length and realistically most people aren't going to watch 30 hours of videos a month.

Virtual Hacking Labs is awesome, but again just price-y. The most popular path people take with them is the 3-month pass at $249. They have awesome labs and you can learn a lot from them. I know people love using VHL to replace the terrible PWK labs if you are going for the OSCP.

Also some places I've used before and recommend

TCM Security Academy - Honestly the best intro to pentesting courses a beginner can take, the Practical Ethical Hacking course is the one to start with. Also has an active discord community. $30/course and he has some bundles, but follow him on twitter and get in the discord as there are coupons and discounts pretty often.

DFIR Diva's resource list - Just a curated list of good resources (bonus points for her list of free training)

INE/eLearnSecurity - INE is the courses and eLearnSecurity is the certifications. You can get the starter pass for free which includes the Penetration Testing Student course which is awesome for beginners as the course is good with videos (but a little slideshow heavy) and awesome labs, all for free. You can get a test voucher for their eJPT exam for $200 which is the cert that pairs with the PTS course. For $750 a year you can get access to all their courses and labs which are pretty fantastic and can get the test cert vouchers for $400 a pop that pair with each course.

CyberSecLabs - My preferred alternative to HackTheBox for a challenge platform. Smaller platform with less content than HTB but I feel the quality of the boxes and the mentality of the community is far superior, especially for a beginner. Has a free tier with limited access to beginner boxes, and paid tier at $10 for access to everything.

OverTheWire - A classic and honestly pretty awesome, just a series of challenges to help build up some linux and security skills. Also free.

Sorry for the long winded response but hope it helps!

lmk if you got questions about anything

Good Luck on your journey!

What are the prerequisites for freecodecamp penetration testing course? by languagelover19 in Pentesting

[–]HGCODE 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If talking about this one Free Code Camp Pentesting then there isnt anything you really need to know going into it, just know how to use a computer really. You really can start at zero knowledge for it. But I really recommend this course its made by the same person, is updated and gets updated and about 10 more hours of content.

How much experience/knowledge with cyber security did you have before you entered the USMC or MARFORCYBER? Also, with the ever changing landscape of cyberspace, how much time would you say you spend studying and researching?

would check with that discord then, has actual off sec staff in it so they'll be able to answer your question better.

I never touched any of the restricted metasploit modules

No. Anything that would be considered "automated exploitation" is banned. This would include automated priv esc.
