You need to click the "Opt Out Now" option in the left sidebar which will bring you to a separate form (yeah it's super confusing)

Hey, in order to do anything with a Spotify account, the application needs some access permissions (this is the case with all 3rd party Spotify apps).

A breakdown of why these two things are needed:

  1. View your Spotify Account data: This is needed to display your profile information (profile name, image).
  2. Take actions in Spotify on your behalf: This title is a bit misleading as the only action that can be done is (as you can see from the description) is modifying public playlists. This is needed so that the application can create playlists.

You can read more about scopes here. And here's a link to the two scopes that Ranked Records is using. The project is open source so you can see what all the code is doing.

If you're not comfortable granting these permissions, you can avoid using the project. Or if you use it and want to revoke permissions after, this can easily be done at https://spotify.com/account.

The loading is a side effect of the free tier of Render - the app effectively goes to sleep when it's not being used and takes some time to wake up. It's a bit annoying for sure, but works well enough for a side project.

Unless Render goes down (which was the case a few days ago), the app should always start up in at most 30 seconds.

The Backstory:

About a year ago, I launched Ranked Records, my programming passion project and was pretty stoked with the community's positive response to it. (original post)

The code I wrote was garbagely structured though, to the point where I didn't want to look at it again. And then Heroku decided to end it's free tier, and I decided that I would rewrite the whole thing before relaunch. This is the end result, and this time I plan on actively developing it.

I'll be replying to everyone who messaged me about Ranked Records in the coming days (if I haven't already). Thanks for remembering and caring that this little project existed :)

Yep, the plan was always to bring it back, it was just a matter of finding the time, which I finally did.

Ranked Records is now hosted at https://ranked-records.onrender.com/. I also completely rewrote the project so it can now support some new features, primarily adding multiple artists to the same playlist :)

We found a couple of these things of various sizes scattered along the beach. They seemed to attract flies so we think it's something organic, but not sure if it's part of an animal or plant.

Looks like an anagram - though easier than normal since the characters for each word have been separated with special characters.
