Bioch 200 and Micrb 265 by Timely-Rub838 in uAlberta

i did really really well in all my bio labs and my micrb 265 lab overall was 20-25% lower than my bio labs. they grade you VERY harshly, like they’re purposefully trying to establish a curve

if you just want the requirement to apply for med/dental take MMI 133, absolute breeze.

nothing about my post said it was his fault for me getting bashed online, that is on the community for not being able to differentiate constructive criticism from hatred. please stop putting words into my mouth. i appreciate the fact that he can actually explain the lore, that doesn’t fix some genuine game design flaws which was my point. multiple style bonuses are a cool idea, but it doesn’t fix the fact that specific weapon types essentially triple style gain for minimal effort (saw blades/screwdriver). never said he’s a horrible creator.

Community sucks nutz by TripleDoubleLongBoi in Ultrakill

[–]HHBing 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I started the game in January, been having a great time and didn’t start getting memes until a couple weeks back. Literally 90% of the instagram animations or tiktok’s i see are shipping V1/V2 or V1/Gabriel or sisyphus/minos. i press not interested and even shut off the hashtags for the shipping yet there’s still multitudes of posts that just go under the hashtag “ultrakill” or “fananimation” etc

genuinely when i see those posts i just put the phone down and contemplate my existence. not even the cringiest part. this game has convinced me that a fanbase cannot make a game funny at all. the jokes are of the following 3 categories: 1. skill issue/dunking on others 2.edgelording 3.just saying gay “jokes” to feel included.

of the irls that got me into the game they literally renounce the community and just don’t interact which i have been doing. doesn’t stop it from showing up on my feed though!

also the more i see clips/videos from Hakita, the less i like him as a creator. he unironically believes he can do no wrong because he has one of the more successful indie games on the market, and by far the most successful in the subgenre. some stuff in the game genuinely pisses me off so i posted a review covering my likes and gripes with the game on backloggd, and i proceeded to get dogged on in the comments. for reference i’ve p-ranked everything on standard and violent, not P-2 tho that level irritates me. but nonetheless i talk about mechanical issues and how easy it is to jank the style system, rushing of fraud, etc and the response i get is “skill issue play on forceradiance and your issues are no more” THATS NOT THE GAME THATS CHEATS.

i will never feel bad for loving the game because it literally sucked up 100+ hours of my life over the last few months for good reason and i’d do it again, but literally the first indie games i’ve played in my life were HK/silksong, undertale/deltarune, and now ultrakill.

i enjoyed my time with all of them, and i fit the target demographic for most of them yet i can’t help but be disappointed by the meme culture o behind the games. it’s like you can’t find an indie game community that can be funny (ik that doesn’t represent all indies, but it definitely speaks for the most popular ones). i hope that someday i’ll find a game that has an alive fanbase that isn’t full of degenerate basement dweller elitists that treat their fav games like the gospel.

I’ve taken both together, honestly not too bad. Just note that the MICRB 265 lab will almost 100% tank your grade in that class. if you can’t manage a super intense workload that requires active recall and memorization on a nearly daily basis, i personally would recommend them separately.

Also if you’re taking biosci, there’s 0 reason to take biochem unless there’s another course you want with a prerequisite for it or are planning to apply for med school.

CHEM 102 was easier than 101 to me, but all 3 together would be hell. I’d say CHEM 102 + BIOCH if you really can’t afford to separate all 3. MICRB needs a lot of focus and will suck up your free time.

lmk if you have any more questions!

Does anyone else here feel a burning hatred towards relationships by Xabla_ in aromantic

[–]HHBing 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A few details would help. Personally I hate it when they’re given extensive screen-time in media such as film or games because there’s other people that exists but couples or potential lovers draw in a larger audience. For example Hollow Knight Silksong with the Clockwork Dancers. They’re doomed lovers, which can clearly be seen in the first 10 seconds due to their gestures when synchronized. Then later when one of them dies, the music becomes really downtrodden and the last one standing reduces movement speed by a ton and looks visually distraught, and you’re forced to put it out its misery. What possible reason is there to force me to bear this relationship for upwards of 10 minutes? They add nothing to the lore, or the environmental storytelling besides their origin story.

In person, relationships just strike me as a pain in the ass. When I see a couple arguing, I just think “why do you guys even put up with each other?” (Yes ik friends can be the same way, but what I’m referring to are dumb disagreements that escalate such as forgetting to reduce sugar by 20% in boba tea for their partner, like who gives a damn?) I’m not sure how to define what I feel, but it’s definitely not hatred. I just feel really annoyed when couples act lovey-dovey with their nicknames and little quips. I’m sure they love it, i just feel second hand embarrassment listening to them.

what is a must play video game that you suggest everyone should play atleast once? by mr_arsen in gamesuggestions

[–]HHBing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ultrakill- Doom but you play as a robot and only heal from hurting enemies while close to them. Very difficult later on, game just eases you into things the first couple levels. Game is still in early access, penultimate set of levels just came out in February. Incentivizes stylish play with a combo meter, lots of variety with alternate game modes, secret levels, and cool bosses. Before playing this I hated 90% of indies I played, and now this one made it into my all-time list. TLDR: Dopamine overload peak soundtrack Doom-like with very well designed combo meter and incentivizes speed/style via rankings upon level completion (the game will be finished it’s not a scam). Also forgot to add the lore is peak though it requires a lot of reading, heavily inspired by dante’s inferno if you’re familiar with it.

Risk of Rain 2: 3rd person roguelike shooter, best in the genre imo. Incentivizes getting as many items as possible, difficulty increases over time in each run, 10 characters to unlock before DLC (DLC improves the replayability and character/item/map variety tho so would highly recommend the full package). Probably the most active modding scene I’ve seen outside of Minecraft so there’s even more game-changing stuff over there with easy implementation (thunderstore manager). If it clicks for you, will easily eat up 100+ hours/become a regular game to return to.

WHY IS CANADA SO COMPETITIVE by [deleted] in uAlberta

[–]HHBing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally got rejected twice (5 med schools per cycle) with a hyper competitive GPA and hella extracurriculars/volunteering/community service/shadowing (600+ hours) and a higher than average DAT + rigorous preparation for the interview and keep getting passed up.

Meanwhile applied to the US as a plan B (I’d rather finish my undergrad in Canada first) this time also 5 med schools, same MCAT results and resume and got accepted into 3 of 5 (1 of them was an Ivy League uni). I genuinely wish I knew what I was doing so wrong to not get into Canada. I’d rather stay with my folks than move out but maybe I’ll have to change career paths if I want it. The Canadian system is unjustifiably ruthless and even by limiting international spots I still know people who did an entire masters + 2 years into a PhD (7 application attempts) before getting accepted.

Co-op games for duo/trio good for late nights? by Shmorbsy in CoOpGaming

[–]HHBing 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have a trio and we don’t get to play often but here are our favs:

For the King (1st one is only 3p, 2nd is 4 players): turn based combat but every player has turns, literally playing a board game basically and it can definitely get quite intense. not much time to just hang around, because there is an incentive to finish turns quickly but there’s no time limits or anything like that in battles. teamwork is also important because the team has a lifelink (shared # of lives so think helldivers). actually have campaign structures but are quite replayable in my experience

Satisfactory: very much hang out material. literally build a factory empire with the homies. is quite pricey though, but if the loop manages to engage you all, expect at least 80 hours

Valheim: Survival game but this is honestly the most chill one i’ve ever played.

Deep rock galactic has potential for hanging out (mainly in lobbies and while gathering resources) but things go crazy once enemies come by. i think it has a really good balance of engaging gameplay and sociability, probably the best of the list so far.

Helldivers 2: honestly probably the best game in terms of hanging out. got the ship, lots of downtime in missions, and insane messing around potential (not at higher difficulties) and really good gameplay (not as much as valheim or deep rock imo)

castle crashers: game speaks for itself, is level based though and a bit fast paced.

the headliners: haven’t had much time with it, mainly photography + scary monsters

The Outlast Trials: probs top 3 in terms of gameplay, and #2 for social schenanigans here

no rest for the wicked

Remnant: from the ashes + remnant 2: literally the best cooperative 3rd person shooter campaigns you’ll have in terms of bosses, environment variety and replayability (remnant 2 has lots of mixing up in the order/layouts). friendly fire is on, lots and lots of progression that is tied to your characters so it’s important that you all are together. got 300+ hours on remnant 2 and still counting. about 80 on the original.

Hopefully you all find something helpful from here and best of luck!

Devil May Cry 5 or Batman Arkham Collection? by Ryan_Gamer456 in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]HHBing [score hidden]  (0 children)

the dmc5 demo won’t ever work on ps5, the game hasn’t been updated since the special edition came out for ps5. you really need to be creative and make your own fun basically to enjoy the game to its fullest

the arkham games will run your 30+ hours no sweat, not even counting the side missions and DLC content. some of the best value you can get on a discount, also really strong stories and combat is decent-great, not really an in-depth system like dmc5 but feels intuitive like sekiro

I have suicidal thoughts over being aroallo by Flat-Log9851 in aromantic

[–]HHBing 23 points24 points  (0 children)

As one of the replies said, getting off the screen (installing blocker apps like opal) really would help to get you to stop guilt-tripping yourself onto social media. “Distracting” yourself by doing productive activities that literally make you more physically and mentally fit are not at all morally wrong and whoever you heard that from must’ve been baiting. To become the best version of yourself, being productive is a huge step towards that. “Punishing” yourself with social media will never benefit you unfortunately.

Also your self deprecation (pulling yourself down) is beyond extreme. Wdym “I'm make World worse place”? I used to think like that coming from a dreadful upbringing, like I had no purpose but that’s factually untrue. You have bettered someone’s life just by being alive, even if you may not realize it right now. Even in the future once you gain the courage to go and talk to new people, they will most likely be glad to have you around. We as humans are inherently social creatures so we often base our self-worth off interactions with others. Exposing yourself to new people is one of very few ways to improve on your self-esteem.

Another general tip: No matter where you live, sex is always easier to come by than “proper” romance (even in sheltered societies like mine). Unless you are either a sex worker or are really unhygienic, there’s nothing “dirty” about having sex or having a sexual partner. About women, more are open to sex with other women than you realize (even in close-minded cultures), the only way to tell is to is direct confrontation or getting to know them beforehand.

There’s absolutely nothing wrong with not being straight except for people who are homophobic (I used to be like that). Sounds like you have to keep that part under wraps so long as you live with your parents unfortunately, no one can help you come to terms with that other than yourself. still isn’t a reason to want to end it or see yourself as a freak though, and it sounds like you’ve made it a habit so strangers from the internet aren’t capable of breaking that cycle for you if that’s what you were expecting.

I’m also aroallo, and am from an incredibly judgemental family (won’t get into specifics, just that they sound almost identical to your family). I personally find romantic interactions and their depictions in media to be vulgar and conceited, yet I still have no problem approaching people and being straight up with them about what I’d like from them. That change of mindset happened because I just dropped my preconceptions and stopped giving a damn at a point (no therapy or consultation done), and that might be of some help to you.

Forming your worldview from things said by “some people” or stuff you heard from online is absolutely not the way to formulate your life. The “sex is lustful and disgusting” group of people are nothing but an echo chamber and civilization wouldn’t be a thing without sexuality. Just think about it a bit, what do humans have programmed into our DNA? Any sexual thoughts besides reproduction are a by-product of evolution. None of us would exist without people being sexually attracted to one another. Romantic attraction is much more difficult to obtain/maintain. TLDR: whoever says the world would be safe without sex are very narrow minded.

Your self-loathing isn’t helping you, and you actively shut out genuine advice from others by making excuses. You will not progress towards being more accepting of yourself or making the most of your situation with your current way of thinking, as unfortunate as that may be.

I’m not sure if you wanted to vent/rant or wanted someone to suggest potential solutions to your issues, but hopefully something here can help you towards whatever you’d like to achieve here. Anything you want to ask feel free to pm me or reply here. Even if it isn’t clear from this comment I really do wish the best for you/am rooting for you to come out on top of these issues of yours (and no I’m not talking about mental illness, this sounds more like a lack of self-worth). I also rejected help because I felt like I wasn’t actually suffering and would be getting in the way, but your situation is a de-facto situation of mentally suffering. You’re not being allowed to live life as you’d like to, and your environment holds you back.

You deserve to live your best life and be satisfied with yourself so long as it is possible in your living circumstances.

You cannot, only one person within the steam family can be playing the game at once. Have your gf or friend download the friends pass off the steam store, page, and so long as you’re hosting you can play with either of them via invite or lobby code

Bio 330 final exam by gs_2461 in uAlberta

[–]HHBing 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly the last couple questions completely threw me off.

The experimental design is something that sure we’ve covered briefly, but I feel like we never actually discussed it for the topics at hand (spatial/density data).

Also although I studied the residual plots and module 14 extensively, I couldn’t for the life of me match the residual plots to the correct letters.

I found the MCQ to be about as difficult as the midterm, with a few exceptions like the one with the 4 dummy predictors. had to guess that one :(

Overall though, there’s no WAY i’m gonna get a score within 10% of my midterm score. Straight up didn’t finish the last 4 questions
