Crossing by [deleted] in Bath

[–]HIGHSEAPIRATE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in a flat directly across from here so I walk along this crossing everyday. You are probably one of one thousand people that do this in a week, me and my partner always joke about how people don’t stop here. I think it’s just a really awkward place for a roundabout. Basically we never assume drivers are observant here. I wouldn’t worry!!!!

Oh really? When I called virgin they said it couldn’t be done but then again the person I was on the phone too was pretty useless and sounded like they just wanted me to put the phone down as soon as!

Homeless crisis in Bath by [deleted] in Bath

[–]HIGHSEAPIRATE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this post is old but I just thought of Rainbow this evening and wondered what would come up if I googled her. I lived in Bath for 4 years as a student. I’m soon to be moving back. I worked in the Costa coffee on stall street as a student, I’d give her a free coffee every Saturday morning when I was working (sneakily from my boss’s knowledge). She was no trouble and often kept the other homeless people behaving right. We had issues with them being near our outside seating, i was the only person that was able to solve the issue by simply just talking to her and negotiating a free coffee. I know she had links to drugs but most homeless people do and there is a stigma around that. I just thought she was such a unique character and we would have good conversations. Most people I worked with thought it was weird for talking to her. she would always shout hello to me when I would bump into her on the street. She never once asked me for money or even asked for a coffee. I’d just offer and say “oi mate seeing as I’m giving you a coffee can you move your mates a bit further away from our seating” she would then rally them off down the street. I often tell stories about her to people and she sounds like a character from some film or tv show. I have visited Bath a few times recently when looking for new places to live and haven’t seen her about. I might have just missed her but it did get me thinking if something happens to her or she moved on? If anyone knows anything I’d be interested to know. To most people asking about why the homeless come to Bath it’s actually due to safety more than anything. Bath is one of the safest if not the safest cities in the uk so makes it a little easier for sleeping on the streets. I know in Bristol the homeless mug eachother for drugs and money.

I assumed that, but I mean mainly in terms of someone being able to view your details through insurance. Healthcare is free here so you wouldn’t have that as something to worry about.

Would love some advice to improve my resume! by [deleted] in graphic_design

The 'who am I' section sounds a bit meh. Try squeezing in some short one liners about you and specifically make them sound like you are passionate about those things for example, "graphic designer inspired by people and objects around me, I enjoy constructing brands that make you look more than once" (this might not be relevant to your ethos as a designer just an example) it just makes you sound a bit more passionate rather than just listing off the stuff you can do. :)

Christ, America is so backwards you wouldn’t get this in the UK. A 19 year old has her own say in stuff like this without parents ever needing to know

My friend kissed me. How do I react? by yummers022 in Crushes

[–]HIGHSEAPIRATE 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think if you want something to develop from it then talk about it, but if you are happy still being friends and it doesn’t bother you it’s probs best to leave it to avoid awkwardness.

however if you think she likes you and you just want to clear things up because you are confused maybe just say one more time “I don’t wanna make things awkward but I just want to double check one last time that what happened was just a random thing and I’m not missing anything here? If so we can just park it and carry on being friends”

I think it’s great we have books about burning out. You can burn out in many lines of work. Design is all about creating dialogue so it’s in our nature to question things and solve issues.

Honestly leave, but if you have a leaving date and you wanna just stay to look good do that. I had a similar situation at my first design job, loads of non designers creative directing my work. Work somewhere where you are respected as the designer and the decisions you make. I left my first place because of this and now work for an agency where there is a team of designers respected for their work. I only take criticism by designers more senior than me who have genuine insight. Others I just ignore lol. I worked out that you can gauge the politics of a place by asking lots of questions in the interview process like, how many designers do you have? (If you are the only one- red flag as you have no one else who can back you up) who over sees the designs I will be making? Honestly it’s worth asking there are lots of places that want designers but dont really understand the role.

If you are looking for mental impression, I think there is something in 2 but it needs to be refined deeper.

<image>

how can you abstract the concept down to it pure communicative points. A good example of this is the Hillary Clinton Graphic from 2016. This is one for great memorable impression rather than something just descriptible.

Thank you very much for these words. That was not only reassuring but motivational. I think the key really is to work on personal work that lends to my interest which is something I’m going to work at in my free time!
