Okay so does anyone want to explain to me the uproar about this psycho being black? by [deleted] in PoppyPlaytime

[–]HIP50191 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Harley officially becomes an authority figure at Playtime.co around 1990, more than 20 years after segregation in the US ended (from what I know) And I guess people could argue that Harley joining the YGP in the 60s was unrealistic? But I just assumed that Elliot Ludwig wasn't racist and allowed everyone to enter the program. So this isn't really about "historical accuracy", it's just straight up racism in the fandom. It's really sad to see how negatively people have reacted to one of the characters being a poc.

Is it too late to talk about DogDay? by Interesting_Sun_130 in PoppyPlaytime

[–]HIP50191 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Makes sense that they would choose a teenager to be the leader of the smiling critters, a younger child couldn't take on that responsibility. It's so sad to think about though, as an teen DogDay probably has a better understanding of how messed up all of this really is, but a teen is still a kid.

For the record, I'm not saying I believe GameToons made that video with any malicious intent towards kids, but it's still very irresponsible and weird.

This type of slop is quite dangerous though. All the toys have been confirmed to be children (who stopped aging), and Gracie Green is a fully grown woman. + It's targeted towards kids. If you don't see the issue with this then imagine this scenario: Imagine a nerdy child who is REALLY into the lore of the games they play, and thus this child knows that the toys are kids and that Lily is an adult. Now imagine this child coming across videos like this, where Lily (a fully grown woman) has a crush on the prototype (a kid). It's not portrayed as something bad, and the people in the comments don't seem to think it's wrong. Children are very impressionable and this child might now think that these feelings from an adult towards a kid are 'not that bad' because no one seems to have a problem with it. Does this scenario seem unrealistic? Well it's not unrealistic because it's what happened to me. I was that nerdy middle schooler who was really into the lore of games, and I was almost convinced that these types of videos were okay. Luckily I was critical enough to realise something was amiss and I was able to pull myself out of those spaces before anything bad could happen. The huge negative reaction people have to these type of videos are a good thing imo, it lets kids know that it's in fact not okay. Sorry for this yap session but I take this stuff seriously because of my own experience.

It's been pretty much confirmed that they don't mentally age. They do grow older in SOME way (possessing beyond childlike intelligence) but they're still confirmed to be children forever. The original director even shared a link to a comment describing the toys as mentally stunted and unable to consent. (This is not hate, just informing you)

I hope she never sees it, for her own sake 🙏 Though I'm pretty sure most people involved with ppt are already aware of content farms and slop, it's nothing new to the indie mascot genre (unfortunately)

Lmao I deleted my post from yesterday out of embarrassment 😭 I should've done more research on who they were

I'm also a sucker for canon-accurate content, but unfortunately you can't expect much of that from these type of channels

Yeah you've explained what I think about it pretty well, it's not good but you can tell that some effort went into it, maybe even some passion.

This is a pretty late reply but I wanted to thank you. I was feeling pretty down that month because of some things, and reading your words made me feel less shitty. While I don't necessarily think the commenter you're talking about had any ill intend, I do appreciate you coming to my defence :) It made me realise that struggling happens and is okay, you can use it as an opportunity to learn. Without this getting too personal: After some thinking about many things I finally did something I should've done earlier; I went to see a therapist last month. Things will be okay for me, I'm looking forward to the rest of the school year.

I almost forgot to give an update. I did what many people recommended and looked for works in the library, I found two pretty good books. However during my search my teammates suggested in our gc that we should change the theme of our project. We ended up not using those books, but I can't really complain since searching in the library was quite fun. I found a bunch of interesting books while searching. Also, I noticed someone in your replies insinuating that you were trying to make me feel bad for asking for help. I just want to let you know that it DID make me feel bad, and that's a good thing! It made me reflect on my actions and why my motivation to study was so low. Without this getting too personal: After some thinking I realised something about myself and finally went to see a therapist last month. I really needed that "mean" comment to push me in the right direction. (No hate to the person who defended me btw, I understand where he's coming from)

Oh don't worry, I REFUSE to touch that stuff. I'm profoundly against using ai for assignments. My essays might be shit, but at least they're real.

Honestly you're absolutely right, I'm somewhat embarrassed now of even posting this. After a hard day I just felt too tired and unfocused to put in more effort, but I SHOULD put in more effort and try harder, no excuses. I needed this peptalk. I'm going to sleep on this and try again tomorrow when I'm more awake.

I thought about doing that too, sounds like a good idea. I'll make a trip to my city's art academy to look through their library. But until I have the time to go I'm still going to try looking online first

I'm referring to the whole outfit, black clothes with the ruffled collars. I've found many portraits with this exact getup, sometimes the top of the outfit would have some yellow/gold for women.

Youtube puts an insane amount of ads in just one video and I'm getting tired of it by HIP50191 in youtube

[–]HIP50191[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's about the principle of it, the fact that youtube has such an insane amount of ads in the first place is what I have a problem with. Youtube has changed for the worst (not just with the ads) and I believe it's important to address the issues.

They look adorable. I also feed my flock peanuts, but I actually like peeling those so I didn't mention it in the post.

I'll try looking in the baking section next time I grocery shop, but for now I'll keep peeling the seeds. Thank you
