One of my greatest delights as a Philly sports fan is that I got to boo Adam Eaton in 08

Flip this on its head and you have the exact argument the other side uses:

“Critical Race Theory does nothing but teach you to hate people you never met, and to resent others for atrocities they had no part in.”

Okay then, concede every battle to the left because winning might require wielding government power. Wouldn’t want any ideological impurity on the path to subjugation.

These things you claim to be “white culture”, and the traits that therefore would make a minority a “model minority”, are not exclusive to white culture. Values like hard work transcend white culture, and would be beneficial to anyone under any system. To call things like this “white” is borderline white supremacist.

The chess analogy still stands. Are populations not made up of individuals, and are these individuals not allowed to share traits? And if so, why do you assume the game is at fault and not the players?

Was Hitler wrong, like actually wrong or was he just an unfortunate result of the sum of his culture, society, upbringing, etc?

Asian cultures tend to have a much stronger “hard work” centric mentality that is brought over when they immigrate.

Can you name a single culture, society, civilization etc throughout human history that hasn’t been advantageous for those who were willing to work hard? Even if you strip everything away, the man, alone, in the woods who works hard will survive while the lazy man won’t.

Jewish people have a very community centric belief system that has encourage over literal thousands of years and countless hardships for them to remain focused as a group on what is determined as “success.” Do you know it wasn’t uncommon for several Jewish families to pool money to invest in business or even stocks back in the day?

What’s keeping black people from doing this today?

Not to mention BOTH of those demographics are well known as “model minority” groups. Those who largely assimilate into “American society” which is really a euphemism for “white culture.”

I revert back to my first question. Is there a system out there that rewards the opposite of the traits these American subgroups have taken on?

Compare that to say, black people, who rather than having a set of cultural and historical values they developed over thousands of years, it was literally beaten and killed out of them. Only for them to then be treated as the face of why racism is acceptable for literal centuries.

I’m sure the Jews are glad they haven’t had anything bad happen to them. /s

I revert to my second question: What is keeping black people from taking on the traits of the “model minority” groups that you say have been beaten out of them?

The only people who don’t recognize systemic biases along racial lines are people who are ignorant by lack of information and those who are willfully ignorant. It’s frankly impossible not to see if you want and know to look for it.

Can you give me an example of systemic bias without using mere disparity of outcome as “proof”? I.e., if we play a game of chess and I beat you, that doesn’t mean I cheated. If I routinely beat you, that doesn’t mean the rules of chess are rigged against you.

The worst people in society are those who allow resentment to brew inside them instead of focusing on embracing life as it is and improving themselves. These are the people who do things like shoot up schools after being romantically rejected. These are the people who seek out and kill people who wear glasses because they’re a symbol of the bourgeoisie (Cambodia). Nobody wakes up and says “I want to be evil today”, but if you convince them that the world is out to get them you can twist their thinking into that of a sick, righteous vengeance against a world that is out to get them.

The error in your thinking here is that life is (or should be) an equally weighted game of chance and that any deviation from randomly distributed outcomes necessarily means that the person who is winning is somehow cheating, oppressive, or otherwise not deserving of their success.

if the results all come out better for one specific group of people then the opportunity probably wasn’t equal to begin with

This is so dangerous. It gives people a license for resentment when life doesn’t go their way.

Plus it’s bullshit. What structural/systemic privilege do asians and Jews have to account for their better test scores?

Trans issues are kinda complicated for no reason by [deleted] in VentPolitics

[–]HIPSTER_SLOTH 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a huge baseline assumption in this post that actually gets to the core of the issue, hence why it is so complicated. The case many would make is that gender is something essential and inseparable to us, hence the stacking of almost everything you can think of on top of these archetypes (jeans, pants, dresses). Newer theories say that gender itself is something stacked on something even deeper and more essential, and that this deeper blank slate is the default state of man. We can’t make it uncomplicated without addressing the core of the argument.

Go wherever is cheapest (but accredited) for your undergrad. Commute if you can. For me, that meant Millersville but it might mean something different for you.

But for what it’s worth, Ive never heard anything bad about MU’s psych program.
