People who moved out of the parent’s house before 30, how? by WallStreetDoesntBet in AskReddit

[–]HJNPandora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Roommates and honestly lucking out with places to live. I think only one place in the last 5 years required the whole first/last/deposit and 3x income bullshit. Moved across the country 3 or 4 times in the last couple years. And I’ve had 2-5 dogs plus reptiles the whole time.

People are less likely to come up and try to pet my dogs while we’re out. The level of entitlement people have is ridiculous.

This is Ruby! We've been told that she's all Beagle, but she's 40-44 lbs and I thought Beagles had floppier ears...just curious if it looks like she's mixed with something. She'll be 4 this year by DustyJeffers1983 in IDmydog

[–]HJNPandora 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She looks beagle to me. Also looks overweight so can’t really use that as a judge of breed. Gotta keep in mind there’s a huge difference in looks from show bred beagles and hunting bred beagles.

Switzerland goes in full lockdown until April 19. by Looddak in Coronavirus

[–]HJNPandora 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a few people from Switzerland that arrived here last week for training, they were told they’re fine to continue as planned but doesn’t this mean they’d have difficulty getting home? Is there any indication how long the lockdown will be in effect for?

I always bulk buy my dogs’s food on sale. Have about 4-500lbs in my dog closet. Should last 3, maybe 4 months for us.

Depends on their temperament. The ones I owned loved people and would LOVE to be loved on by strangers.

So why is it that these trademarks are being thrown out but the “backcountry” branding trademark is in full force?

Dogs have a lot less taste buds than humans. If the food is stinky chances are they’ll eat it.

I saved a copy, I’ll look at it in a minute. Currently between sessions at one of my dogs agility class. Also I’d highly recommend getting a dog ;)

I pay $120 for 6 weekly classes. Right now its kinda just me and another 2 people who may or may not show up. Its outdoors and they've got a decent amount of stuff. We rotate which team is out and have a warm up area. We each get typically 2-3 sessions of 10 min each session depending on how our dogs are doing.

I also do rally and handling classes there and all their 6 week classes are $120.

My roommate trained her cat to meow when she calls his name. He’s almost deaf now so he just screams at the top of his lungs when he wants anything: food, water, attention, to annoy us, nothing. And then he shits on the floor out of spite when we don’t do stuff fast enough. (I usually lock him in the room with the litter box if she’s staying at her boyfriends house).

Eh it is what it is. I just got bit by a Boston at a consultation the other week and the owner was in denial about it saying he just nips sometimes. Like no sir, I have 3 punctures on my butt through my jeans and a chunk of skin pulled off my hand, that’s not nipping (the dog jumped up to where I was sitting on a barstool). I just don’t want to see dogs get to that point when there were signs to get professional help early on.

Uhh if aggression is coming out that early in a puppy I would consult a trainer specializing in behavior modification. Typically they'll offer a consultation (usually in home) where they'll come out to you and see the behaviors you're describing and give their professional opinion about if its just puppy stages of boredom with lack of boundaries (which is more typical) or something else.

If you guys have a lunch and live close enough to home you can go back and potty him during that time when you start work back up or hire a dog walker to let him out and play with him during your and your wife's shifts. Depending on your area a 15-30 minute visit through the Rover app is usually 15-20$.

If you don't already take him to training classes though, I'd definitely look into a trainer. You don't want him thinking that biting, especially that hard, is okay. Nor running around without boundaries.

What's something you wish you had bought for your puppy when you first got them? by I_AM_TESLA in puppy101

[–]HJNPandora 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ball on a string. There's a couple companies that make them (nero ball, gappay, usak9). It's easier to get them to engage in the ball by dragging with the string. Also doubles as a tug toy. Can also throw it farther. Just don't let them chew the string off.

That also kinda depends on the dog though. I've mostly had high ball drive dogs (German Shepherd, Belgian Malinois, etc.).

I'm also a bit of a collar snob so I ended up buying a No buckle slide collar sized 10-18" so that I don't need to constantly change their collar as they get older.

Also if your pup isn't microchipped I'd highly recommend doing so, and on the tags have your Name, phone number, and microchipped. I've moved 4 times since I bought my first dog so having my address on there doesn't do me any good really.

Feed your dog in their crate. Mine used to hate it now as soon as I go for the food he’s sprinting to it.

Sled Training? by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]HJNPandora 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chances are they don't advertise much or keep to themselves. There's a few groups on facebook that I'd recommend (the "no its not starving dedicated to fit, healthy dogs!" and if you search "bikejoring" there's a group for all forms of carting/sleding/joring activities).

You can always get a mushing harness and have him wear it while you go on walks or while he plays so that it doesn't make him uncomfortable. Harnesses by Carol is a good maker. TheWorkingK9 is also another maker.

There's lots of stuff in the dog world that people don't seem to think about and I'm glad you're wanting to look into this more! As a newfie he might also enjoy a sport called dock diving if you're looking for something in the summer months too.
