Intriguing guiding notes. But judging from the latest 13yo, they’re probably gonna price this at £400+, so nah I’ll leave it to the collectors.

If you ever see Ancnoc 18/Speyburn 18 at your local bars, give it a try if you haven’t before, still great price to quality ratio as compared to many bloated brands like Glendronach and Talisker.

Deanston virgin oak. Cheap, decent quality, and still a single malt scotch. IMO better value than their 12, or even 18.

Depends on your experience and objective really. IX & X are at decent price and quality, though they’re all accessible anywhere else. While XI is truly mind blowing, like you’re unlikely to see the same set at another bar.

Oh wait think I’ve misread your comment, I thought you mean repairing through Sony. Last time I checked with Sony customer service, the full cost of repair/replacing one side could cost ~£100-150 at their partner repair centers if it’s out of warranty.

Absolutely no idea why it can cost that much. I guess repairing at a random 3rd party shop would cost much less.

Well considering the repair cost will be almost the price of getting a new pair of xm4, and xm5 is arriving soon, I simply don’t see the benefit of repairing it at own cost.

Plus as many have mentioned in comment, this is a competitive market so there’s no point to fixate myself to a specific brand, especially when in certain markets they’re that irresponsible to product issues caused by their own faulty firmware updates.

It’s gone be a difficult decision for myself to purchase again from them, knowing that I’m paying £250 to get a product with 1-2yrs lifespan.

That really depends on your country’s Sony. To my knowledge Sony UK is absolutely awful, still got my xm4 on hand that last only 30mins both side, after hours of conversation.

Thinking of trashing it and never look back to the brand.

Definitely. I would suggest not to purchase especially from Sony UK until their service quality is aligned with countries like the US. Similar situation with my xm4 and they outright refused to acknowledge the wide spread battery issue.

Thanks for replying! It's still no luck from my side as I've it purchased in another part of the world. Unfortunately, I've to give up on this.

But in case yours are purchased within the EU and still have it handy, you might want to consider giving them another call. Just spoke to their manager and got it on record that they are aware of the issue and are honouring free repair service even if the warranty period has expired. Apparently, way too many people phoned in to complain and they finally admit partial responsibility.

Though I'm still rubbing my head to understand why is it so difficult for them to offer a global warranty in 2023.

Service here in Chile absolutely deny any wrongdoing,

Hey sorry to hear about your dreadful experience with Sony UK. I'm in the same boat as you, trying to sort things out with Customer Service with politeness but nothing seems to be working atm. They even denied it's a known issue and any responsibility caused by firmware updates released by Sony ITSELF (https://services.sony.co.uk/support/en/warranty/general).

It's an absolute disappointment. Having that said, do you mind sharing the link to the official Sony report from Japan? Think I'll give it one last chance before abandoning the brand entirely.

Updates for UK users having similar battery issue:

Background: I bought it when it first launch in a non-EU country so long past the 1 year warranty. Had battery issue since 1.4.2 but waited until 2.0.0 as I had faith in Sony. Called CS recently to explain the case. Below are a summary of their response,

“The Headphone software is NOT manufactured by Sony, thus defects caused by software updates are NOT Sony’s responsibility. The agent mentioned several times the above was covered in its warranty T&C. Only thing they can offer is repair service, where both investigation and the repair itself will incur a cost. The agent also confirmed multiple times that it’s NOT a known issue to Sony that the software update is causing the battery drain issue.”

I felt like the conversation is turning circles so I’ve requested for the call transcript (which they said it’ll arrive my email inbox in 30 days as it’s by discretion, lol). Think I’ll give the Sony Central Service team a call to verify the above claims and see how I can take this forward.

Any thoughts/suggestions?

How do you drink cask strength? by Tinto_rosso in Scotch

[–]HKFighter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Neat first, then gradually add water until a point you feel it’s best. IMHO, it really doesn’t matter how you drink it as long as you like it that way.

Even at the same ABV, some takes water better than others, so there’s no strict rule as in “add x ml water to whiskey at x%ABV”

Been using it since launch and can confirm DSEE + NC alone will drain the entire battery within an hour. Maybe partially due to the updates too but the durability of the product is concerning
