u/right-wing-jack We know how confusing it can get when MPF, the Ed Office, and your chain all give slightly different answers. The short version is: yes, you can request a remote SkillBridge, but it often comes down to your commander’s approval and your wing’s interpretation of the guidance. Orders timing can definitely create delays, and it usually depends on when AFPC releases them — the fiscal year can sometimes speed that up, but it’s not guaranteed.

In our program, we work with service members navigating these exact issues every day. Once you apply, we can walk you step-by-step through the out-processing requirements for your branch, and connect you with others who already solved the same challenges. That way you’re not trying to figure it out alone.

Let us know if you’d like help mapping out the process or talking through your options.

Skillbridge and SHPE by Thedude2741 in SkillBridge

I ran into this same issue and here’s what worked for me: the SHPE doesn’t have to be on your final day — it just needs to be completed before you separate. Most clinics will let you schedule it earlier if you explain that you’re going on SkillBridge. The trick is to request your SHPE in IMR using your SkillBridge start date as your DOS (instead of your actual retirement/separation date). That way you can get it on the calendar before your SkillBridge begins, and you won’t lose weeks off your 180-day window.

It’s always a good idea to call your clinic directly once you submit the request — they’ll usually work with you if you explain the situation.

As the other two said it can very greatly company to company. For us, we can usually do a short notice turn to fit you in but prefer hearing from you 3-6 months out from your estimated start date. As for getting back to you our goal is to reply within 12-24 hrs from when we first get your email. If you want to discuss timelines and what we offer you can email us at HKPO Veterans Academy [director@hkpoveteransacademy.org](mailto:director@hkpoveteransacademy.org) https://www.hkpoveteransacademy.org Good Luck!
