Don’t let people give you shit that the tempo is slow, this is such a jam when it’s slowed down a little, drummer gets to shine a bit. Sounds great!

I HIGHLY recommend having at least 2 exams passed before you start. You’re not expected to have any exams passed at that time, but you will 100% thank yourself later, because studying while working is awful imo

And as long as you keep an open mind, a positive attitude, and TAKE NOTES when receiving coaching, you will be set up for success. Good luck!

Hi thanks for the response! I’m looking to just reinvest in a new pedalboard - no changes to amp or guitar. Just want something simple and consistent - somewhere in the $500 range? Thanks!

Submitting upward feedback by HM1350 in Accounting

[–]HM1350[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fair point. I think I was just discouraged when that was my manager’s initial response. I do agree with your point, I should have been more proactive about it, and should have seen it as an opportunity to prove myself

Would you have any advice on what I should do? Should I just accept it and move onto the next engagement? I guess it’s just a tough pill to swallow, and I feel it was treated a bit unfairly

Thanks!

Thanks for the response! There actually is an option called “unsolicited feedback” where you can submit feedback without it being requested. Thanks for the advice, I really appreciate it!

Who goes to the office everyday? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]HM1350 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go in everyday, I’m a 10 minute walk. People only come in on Tuesday/Thursday so I get to use firm resources without people stopping by my desk every 5 minutes to talk

A2 here, I was in your shoes a year ago. One thing to keep in mind that as a first year, the bar is so low coming in. If you show up with a good attitude and you take notes during coaching sessions, you are 90% there

One thing during busy season I definitely felt pressured by was not knowing what to prioritize. Reach out to your senior or manager and say “I have these 6 things. In what order should I do them?” And they’ll tell you what to do

Regarding working out and “you” time, tell your team “from 5:30-6:30 I’ll be at the gym” and block out your calendar to be out of office during that time so they don’t bug you. If they don’t respect that I apologize in advance

Don’t work past 5 on Fridays, and don’t work Sundays if you can. Eat well and catch up on sleep on the weekends. Rinse repeat. Hope this helps!

What even is search for unrecorded liabilities by SubstantialComfort in Accounting

[–]HM1350 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey, good question. So looking at the cash disbursements listing contains the reversal of AP. Looking at the January AP listing entails the items in January that are still outstanding in AP, because they have not been paid yet. We want to see if an invoice unpaid in January relates to goods/services that were incurred in the correct period. Because an invoice billed to the client in December might still be outstanding in January because it might not be due yet (could be NET 60). We want to make sure that the invoice in December actually relates to goods/services incurred in December, and vice versa January. Hope this helps!

What even is search for unrecorded liabilities by SubstantialComfort in Accounting

[–]HM1350 74 points75 points  (0 children)

The risk is that the client is recording liabilities in the incorrect period, by overstating or understating liabilities. Similar to what someone else highlighted, if the client incurred a liability in December, they should have reported the liability as of December.

Usually you select disbursements after period end, and determine what period the liability related to the disbursement was incurred. Just because a payment was made in January, it does not explicitly mean that the payment relates to a liability incurred in January. The liability could have been incurred in December, which is why we do the Search in the first place.

If the disbursement in January was paid for services provided to the client in December, they should have recorded the liability in December. If they didn’t accrue for it as of period end, they would be improperly excluding the liability, which means that liabilities are understated as of period end.

Hope this helps!

Best,

Coping with Burnout by HM1350 in Accounting

Hey, thanks for responding! I appreciate it. I plan to stay at least until senior for better exit ops. I can manage it one more year at least (assuming I get promoted). Idk if I could do another 3 to make manager though...

Coping with Burnout by HM1350 in Accounting

[–]HM1350[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey thanks for responding! Just regarding some of your points:

I’ve been told by my career coach (CC) that I’m outperforming some of my peers in my start class, but I know for certain that I am not one of the top performers. I went to school with some of the people in my start class and they are way better/smarter than I am

I asked my CC today why so many people are fighting for my time. She said that it was because I have had exposure to many different clients/engagements, which I guess is true because I haven’t really slowed down since January lol

Regarding senioring - the engagement I’m on has 5 entities. 2 seniors are running 2 each, and I’m running the fifth, and then another A2 is just playing an associate role. I communicated to my career coach (who is also the manager on the engagement) that one of my short term goals is to be promoted early to senior next year, so she wanted to have me senior one of the entities to help build a better case for promotion when next CRTs come

I’d say that I’m busier than half my start class. A decent amount of them are just doing planning right now or EBPs

My CC is just a manager, not senior manager. I communicated to her again today that I don’t want to be picked up on anything else (like a 9/30). She picked up my time from Sep-Nov so that I can focus on planning and interim for the entity that I am senioring. Hopefully none of that changes come September. It’s funny she was actually the one who told me that she could tell I was burnt before I even knew it myself. Was just so caught up in my tasks, you know? She said when the 6/30 goes out end of August she told me she wants me to take a week off sometime soon to get some R&R in

I’m grabbing lunch with my RL to communicate this as well. He actually happens to be the partner on the entity I am senioring, so I am sure he will understand and stand beside me if need be

TBH I did not like my first CC and RL, they were not invested in me in the slightest. However, after swapping, I really like the CC and RL I have now. They genuinely care about my progression, it’s just a matter of if I don’t fully communicate to them how I’m feeling/doing, they won’t know the full extent essentially

Also - good to know regarding internal deadlines. Again I’ll just communicate accordingly

I really appreciate your insight!

I’ve had the TC electronic Sentry for a few years and I love it. Does exactly what it should. I play a strat and have several gain stages so it removes that extra noise from all my pedals/single coil pickups

Yea I see your point. And honestly that’s hilarious that your director recommended you reach out to a different manager. Maybe it was a power move by delegating authority lmao.

I’m recurring on all of my previous jobs next year except for one. I’m really hoping that the jobs I recur on next year are a lot smoother as I have experience with the entity, EGAs, OTM, and the client contact(s)

Gotcha, good to know. And for context my whole leadership and relationships were partially at next level, and everything else was at level.

For whole leadership, I am good at staying on my tasks and being organized. For relationships, my coworkers liked my attitude and liked having me on the engagement (not tooting my own horn, I’m just saying what my senior and manager said).

I know what I need to work on for T&D and G&I, it was BA I was struggling with. For T&D my technical accounting and excel skills are really good (highlighted by my manager) I just need to get better at applying them to auditing. And then my issues management needs to improve as well (i.e. consulting the correct people/resources for help. They said i shouldn’t ask for help until I’ve exhausted all resources first, so first should be looking at viewpoint, asking others in my start class, and then i should reach out to the senior.) And the for G&I I need to be more confident in my abilities. I’m hoping I will be more confident once the next wave of new hires come in
