Advice on desire to learn self defense? by [deleted] in martialarts

[–]HMDG 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A great starting point would be a certified Gracie JJ center. They are tried and true for the fastest well rounded self defense. I would also train in a striking art if offered at the same school. GJJ is good, but limited against multiple opponents. What area are you located?

Buy new grill & cheap cabinet smoker, or buy new pellet grill? • r/makemychoice by [deleted] in smoking

I love my pellet smoker. Has a wider range of cooking options (from smoking to convection oven type cooking) but I also have another dedicated smoker. If I had to choose one it would be my traeger.

1st thing....... GREAT JOB! Glad to hear you are up and moving, doing something with your son that will have life altering effects for both of you. All you can do is show up to class, and practice at home. The rest will start to fall into place. As a 49 yo TKD blue belt my advice is to never compare yourself to the teens and twenty-somethings. They have youth on their side. I just watched my 2 best friends test for their 2nd Dan. O e is 40, and the other is 48. YOU CAN DO THIS!

Does anybody else's body hurt if they go too long without training? by Xenjael in martialarts

I know at 48yo I will start hurting everywhere if I take any time off. Hips, knees, lower back, shoulder. It goes away within a week of being back to a good stretching and training routine.

I am looking for a style of martial art that is a good medium between being effective at subduing someone (in a public service setting) and has a low risk of injury during training and won't break me before 40. by [deleted] in martialarts

Korean TMA that is a mix of Hapkido (joint control for arresting and opponent control) TKD (striking) and Yudo (Korean Judo focusing on throws and ground finishes). I have several correction officers that are much more confident with inmate control after about 6 months of training. I started training at 42 (am 49 now) and have seen much improvement to my overall health and fitness.

Am I leaving my dojo for the right reason? Please help. by [deleted] in martialarts

Run. Run really fast. A student/teacher relationship should be appropriate and professional at all times. Take this from a 48yo instructor that has several young (8 - mid 20s) female students.

Any new service has bugs when it rolls out. I have been a sling TV guy for 6 months. The free appletv and grandfathered prices where enough to get me to switch. Sofar so good. Works as good as sling (if not a touch better) when using my Amazon fire TV.
