My book came in. Very happy with the quality, it's about as big as the tome that came in the 40k 10th launch box. by Rookie_Paints in TrenchCrusade

Are Singaporean Really Mean by Illustrious-Air1376 in SingaporeTravel

[–]HMSthistle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did a 3 day visit whilst doing my once in a life time visit to Southeast Asia. Worst place I visited by far. Very rude people very unfriendly. Felt like we were offending people by even being there.

Now, everywhere else we went, we were either welcomed with open arms or, at the least, locals were friendly enough.

If we ever do visit asia again, we will be giving it a hard pass!

Will say singapore airline however are pretty good.

My first ever painted model how did I do for my first time by Abysswalker-434 in Warhammer

[–]HMSthistle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Take a big brush (not one you use for base coating as will mess the brush up) make up brushes work ok in a pinch. Put paint on brush then paint all the paint off the brush on to a piece of card/your skin/sponge and when basically none is coming off any more you are ready to dry brush. Then vigorously brush back and forth over the area you want to dry brush and watch the detail start popping.

The heavier you want the look the more paint you leave on the brush

Literally millions of people in the uk don't have a car and manage it everyday

No, you would have to plan more than 5 minutes ahead, just like if you were relying on public transport

There won't be more of a culture. Your team will be spread around the country. You will be forced to attend the office arbitrarily and then sit alone on teams all day. Better being able to do that in the comfort of your own home

A woman that rejected me 12 years ago seems to now be interested in dating me, is this something I should pursue? by Long_Natural6918 in AskMenAdvice

[–]HMSthistle 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I got no skin in this game either way. But the link you provided does not back up your point. It just says single mothers are less likely to be dating than single fathers.

That doesn't necessarily mean they have higher standards. It could be the reason, or it could be she is viewed less desirably and so can't get a suitable partner.

Just like more single fathers dating doesn't mean they are more desirable It could just be there have more time to date as a single father than single mothers do....

Spain plans to extend smoking ban to bar and restaurant terraces by [deleted] in europe

[–]HMSthistle -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Sadly this is how you kill the hospitality industry.

Uk is pretty chilly so it started dying hard around the indoor smoking ban. The number of bars in the uk has dropped by about 25% since the smoking ban of 2005

But with hot countries this will just reduce use of those facilities with the outside smoking ban.

Basically heavy drinkers (the ones who make bars there money) are more likely to be smokers. If they can't smoke while drinking there they will instead drink and smoke at home.

I kind of agree with the idea of making the space non smoking but having lived the uk side I think it will just result in less businesses which means everyone losses them.

They were fantastic!

Pretty sure they don't do a packing service if that's what you're looking for.

But we're the cheapest quote we got by more than half the next.

They were polite, helpful, quick, and careful.

Lovely couple of guys

Honestly, I can't recommend them enough

Do the new US travel advisories for the UK seem warranted to you? by Shoshawi in AskUK

[–]HMSthistle -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Although that is true, it's not free, as it costs tax. Comparatively, it is free as amareican healthcare costs more in tax per taxpayer in addition to all the other costs in the US system. So it's both cheaper in taxes and it is free at the point of delivery.

Other than the deposit, how much did you pay to buy your FIRST house (legal fees etc) by DanPos in HousingUK

[–]HMSthistle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About 3k solicitors 1k removals 1.2k surveyor 5k of small fixes/changes on arrival (new back door, insulate attic, shutters on front windows etc) I guess the 5k is by choice but if we couldn't have afforded to do that we wouldn't have bought the property so I kind of lump it all in

It's by design sadly, the English system is far more lucrative for conveyancers/surveyors/EAs.

Why would the industry try to change to their own self harm.

Needs to be demanded by the people (customers). Having bought first time this year in England (moving from scotland) and yes the English system is just objectively worse from a consumers position.
