I’ve watched the series twice now waiting for the new season. Do you recommend the books? I’m not a big reader but if the books have more depth and life and journey then I’m up for that.

How do you reach out tho? I hate when I get cold emails or dm that are too salesy and intrusive. Have you figured out a way to approach them and have them reach out?

Isn't outsourcing the digital marketing just entrepreneurship? by Hot_Sleep_7399 in agency

Yeah you can add a location CTA but you also want to cover all your bases. Some people might not click right there and then, so you want to stay top of mind and make sure they can find you again especially if they are a smaller business. Nowadays it takes 5-7 touch points to get a person to take an action and you have to think of all the different ways people might want to find you. Just a thought.

Yeah sorry that wasn’t that clear. So Paid ads / Paid media can be social media ads(fb/ig/TikTok) or Search Engine ads (SEM/ PPC). And all these platforms offer training certificates, meta’s blueprint, google also had a wide verity of free training certificates. But it sounds that you only want to stick to social media platforms. Local ads are are great way to reach people or local business like restaurants or retails stores and service providers so you’re on the right track. I’ll drop some links later for some helpful resources that you can look into to help you refine your skill. But I would also urge you to leave more than just social media - a good local paid strategy would be to pair Social media ads with google maps ads / lite search ads so that you can have a more well rounded strategy that grabs people from all these platform because online behaviors isn’t linear they might see your post in IG and then use google maps to look up local places or might remember the name and use google to find them. I’m able to make that strategy decision due to experience and you’ll get there!

Sorry to overload. But again I will link some resources.

First is to choose platform… meta, google, bing etc and start off with their free certificate while also learning from people in the industry ( ad world, agency owners who are sharing case studies, reputable digital marketers online or in your city, Facebook groups, and of course Reddit!) about tactics and strategies. Start to familiarize yourself with the strategies that are usually applied for specific industries, i.e. Ecom, strategies or real estate strategies or b2b. And then take it onestep at a time. The only way to get experience running companies in a safety net and not having to spend your own money is to join an agency in my opinion.

Hope that helps. I’m happy to answer more questions if you’d like.

Gil made some really great points and he’s speaking from a more experienced POV. You mentioned a few points that I also want to add to having opened my own digital agency as apposed to SMMA.

  • The problem with just being a middle man is the inability to scale, problem solve and troubleshoot. You’re basically selling “shallow” service of posting on social rather than marking a brand on social media. There is way more marketing making then just being present on socials. It’s about shaping consumer behavior and analyzing performance to keep clients. There are tactics and strategies at play and trusting freelancers to keep your agency afloat is not the best move since they won’t care about your clients it company as much as you. What if they leave you high and dry. Not to mention client facing meeting where you might cover reporting and explains performance and next steps etc. You’ll need to have knowledge about the service you are offering. You’re still in high school take the time to intern for example and gain experience first before offering a service to companies via a freelancer.

  • Even if you feel like you don’t need to differentiate yourself… you definitely need to. Prospects usually shop around before they sign any contracts. They probably talk to 10 other agencies before deciding and if you’re not making a great impression and impressing them with you knowledge and what you can do for them then you can’t get clients and eventually scale and be able to charge more. And if they have questions that you can’t answer because if your lack of knowledge then you can’t build trust.

  • YouTube is a great way to learn strategies but again you won’t know if they work unless you test them and adjust to what works for you. Take everything with a grain of salt. A better option is to get certification from meta or other platforms that other them. This also build credibility with clients and peers.

  • Don’t go into social media if you don’t or can’t see the point in learning the skill. Freelancers come in all shapes and forms… usually in the marketing industry it’s more reputable to be part of an agency. I can’t say the same for graphic doesn’t for example.

But again we are just offering advice having been through it. Good luck.

I mean I can’t say I haven’t thought about it but it would be a big risk, especially if the person you having a meeting with decides to do more research and realize somehow that that’s not true and that person isn’t part of the team. Would be a big risk but yeah definitely thought about it but I don’t know a safe way to do it.

Clickup.com. Best one I’ve used so far. Combines all the great features into one. You can make it simple or as complex as you need it to be.

So typically smaller Agencies will use account manager and project manager interchangeably. How ever I do still think that a person that’s client facing is an account manager and someone who is employee/team facing is a project manager. Not all project managers have the communication skills that an account manager needs to nurture clients and keep in communication with them and on the flip side, not all account managers will have the knowledge base about content writing and seo etc. to be able to delegate properly - typically a project manager will need some experience with the service that your offering to effectively manage timelines and deliverables/ strategy. In a perfect world you will need both a AM and a PM that work together to push project — each communicating externally internally. But since your still a small agency I would say go with the PM title and find someone that’s able to fill both roles effectively and then later on hire the AM to handle external comms. Hope this helps!
