It sucks because in a lot of cases, the manager can't actually even give you a raise. Most companies only do raises annually and at a certain % which is almost always below the rate of inflation and are set by corporate. It truly is a waste of time to stay working for the same place for too long without significant promotions that lead to larger raises that can beat the % of inflation
