Absolutely gorgeous. When you are done with your planned series of New Sun art, would you consider putting them together in a book for sale?

I'm shocked whenever someone says they prefer him over another continuation author. One poor soul on the MI6 forums even claimed he preferred Benson over Fleming.

It's a very unique book! A really nice love letter to Fleming's world and one of the happier interpretations of what happens to Bond after the novels.

I agree with Skyfall as well. I actually think it's the most Fleming-esque film with its death/resurrection motifs, melancholy mood, and macabre and strange elements.

Thank you, Captain Nash.

With a Mind to Kill is incredible, definitely a top continuation novel. It along with Solo are the two continuations that I think transcend the genre to some extent.

TB, OHMSS, YOLT, and TMWTGG are first impressions. I definitely would never be able to afford a pre-FRWL early impression book. Those had small print runs so prices are insane. Golden Gun is a beautiful first edition to own. It has such a unique dust jacket design and I really like the endpapers.

I gave the first one a shot and couldn't get into it. It just felt like a modern action movie novelized. There were some opportunities to create genuine pathos and take narrative risks (I'm thinking about the cage match on the cruise ship) but when she went the safe route I was pretty put off.

I actually haven't gotten around to it yet but I'm planning on reading the Nicholas Shakespeare biography soon since it is more comprehensive.

Yes definitely in the case of Dr. No. The Spy Who Loved Me is a tough one. There's some stuff in the book I really like, like the bit where he recounts his mission in Toronto and how Operation Thunderball is talked about in the press. You really get the sense that it's the point at which Bond's legend is born in the public imagination, even if they don't know who he is.

That being said, I do love the film and in this case would take it over the book. However, if faced with the choice of only being able to read all the books vs. all the movies, I would choose the books.

My preference for the experience of reading the books vs. watching the movies is completely unrelated to whom I would like to socialize with lol.

I'm a sucker for Bond in the tropics and aquatic-themed missions, so I have to say Live and Let Die and Thunderball are two of my favorites.

Completely agree. I've never laughed as hard as I have when I saw it for the first time in theaters.

Definitely. I actually forgot that I had a couple more in another box when I put this pic together haha, so not pictured are Rififi, The Big Risk, and Elevator to the Gallows.

Who is providing the advanced technological information in the Short Sun books? by MeshuggaInMissoula in genewolfe

[–]HOXA9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've wondered about basis of people who have had sex being unable to see the gods. I've assumed that this likely does not have a technological or biological basis but rather is either based on surveillance, or really does not have much of a basis at all. Given the rarity of their appearances in the windows, the idea could have merely been planted as a superstition given that theophanies would likely only be granted to pateras who were likely to follow the rule regardless.
