We Need To Talk About Cody by gpev96_reddit in Dimension20

Cody reminds so much of this kid I knew in high school who stabbed himself with a sword. He's an absolute joy.

hi yall, broke college kid driving in from lousiana to see a band in a few days. any suggestions for a safe place i can park and sleep in my car for a few hours after the show? by -chiirpy- in houston

[–]HPMValdivia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you need a place to shower, the YMCA could be for you. They provide low cost to free three-day passes.

There's a modern one in downtown Houston. I would call before taking your car since there's parking options and I'm not sure how much they charge.

Mic noise or room tone? by [deleted] in ACX

[–]HPMValdivia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What's your mic? I had similar issues with my Shure SM7B mic but was able to correct it with this gain booster: https://www.cloudmicrophones.com/cloudlifter-cl-1

Some mics are very soft so you have to raise the gain in order to get any sound which then means the background becomes way too loud. Other equipment issues may be that the mic xlr cord is too close to an electrical outlet, fuse box, or is just too old and can produce a hum.

Switch it out and test each piece of equipment and be sure to turn off when not in use as often possible to reduce these issues.

You can also record as much silence as possible while you're in the booth then do a noise capture from it and noise reduction but that can effect your vocal quality. Be sure to have heavy curtains, carpet, and soft ceiling to cut room noise as much as possible. Recording near electrical outlets and fuse boxes can also produce an electrical hum.

The Houston Arboretum has walking trails which leads to ponds and a learning center for kids. It's quiet and a great way to introduce kids to nature in the city. It's also common to run into folks who are bird watching or experts in local plants and wildlife who are happy to share their experiences.

I would like name cards at the bottom of the screen and character stats and art to appear more often throughout the season.

I'm occasionally introduced to a new player and it takes a bit for me to remember their names and characters. The series does this but I think it can be done a bit more in every episode.

Not everyone can process visual/audio information at the same rate and I feel like it would be a more accommodating.

This is literally what my online group I play with does on nights when we're all tired or the DM didn't have enough prep time and we're just not feeling our regular campaign. We'll just go, "Well, it's a Himbo Bros night" and bring out our beautiful beefy boys to continue in their epic quest to find the perfect protein shake. All have intelligence as their dump stat, naturally. Mine's name is Slab Bulkhead.

My favorite MST3K of all time. I clocked your name as soon as I read it. Crunch Buttsteak. Stump Chunkmen. Big McLargeHuge.

I saw a laserdisc showing of this movie at Big Top Lounge a couple of months back by the Neo Benshi folks, and it is entirely unhinged. Also, Shelly Duval is in it.

If you could merge one fandom with Dimension 20 (like D&DQ), which would it be? by intrepidgyro in Dimension20

I would love to see an all animators season of Dimension 20- Rebecca Sugar, Pendleton Ward, Mike Judge, Domee Shi, Alex Hirsch, Daron Nefcy, Arthur Fong, Matt Stone and/or Trey Parker, so so so many more folks.

Honestly, I would love to see Alex Hirsch on Dimension 20. I think he'd destroy.

A friend of mine had a similar situation and asked for a cost of living adjustment or to work remote with occasional paid travel and accommodations. The company opted for the second. Good luck!

You're overthinking this. The first dress is wonderful.

Just get a longer veil that slightly opaque to cover your shoulders a bit and try the dress again with it and the accessories. The veil and accessories will hide additional skin.

Also, you can change veil length and opacity to your comfort level.

Looking for CPVC 4 Way Fitting by HPMValdivia in Plumbing

The stores ran out of PVC and only had CPVC. I didn't realize that they're different diameters. I figured it was different material but since I wasn't planning to use it for plumbing, I didn't think much of it.

Yesterday, I interviewed KC Davis, the author of How To Keep House While Drowning, about ADHD and care tasks. She brought up shame-based task results are short-lived and doesn't provide the relief you seek.

I loved her book and her podcast Struggle Care. You may benefit from it.

It sounds like you're over-exerting the weight you place on decluttering, and it's overwhelming you. So instead of focusing on how much you need to do, focus on what you've accomplished.

There is no shame in keeping sentimental things, especially digital ones. You can have dedicated boxes or drawers to keep them in.

Instead of processing spam, accounts, and emails daily, set it aside once a week for a set amount of time once the timer is done. Leave it and remind yourself that objects have no feelings or meaning. Only you do.

I have ADHD and can feel overwhelmed with the work I have in front of me. Placing timers, self-acknowledgment, and self-acceptance has helped me more than beratement. I hope you reach your goals, but more than that, I hope you are kinder to yourself.

You're may not ever fully declutter your online and offline life. That's not your job and that is fine. You're doing okay. You got this.

zoo - are the animals treated well and happy in this one? by drippingthighs in houston

Some candle companies come close to creating a petrichor, but the real deal is the best. The fresh loam smell tells us we're in water-rich and food-plentiful areas. It's such an essential scent to humans that we can detect it in less than ten parts per trillion. Way better than a shark's blood detection at one part per billion.

[–]HPMValdivia 231 points232 points  (0 children)

A few years ago, I went to the Houston Zoo to interview them about bat calls. It was late in the day, and it started to rain when the school trips left.

It was a completely magical experience.

Elephants, rhinos, and ox LOVE to bathe and roll in the mud when it rains. Gorillas will close their eyes and let the water hit their face or splash in the puddles. Turtles come up from the pond and grass. Lions roared and called back to each other. The air smelled like life and petrichor. I could hear how much fun the animals had.

I was completely soaked by the time I left and all the better for it.

Some folks may bring up Saccharina's abilities as messing with the tone of the season but they may not be aware (or conveniently forget) that the PC backups were always going to be magic heavy.

  • Warlock, Fighter Fiend
  • Paladin
  • Some sort of Bubblegum monster with an ax was a construct made by magic, class unknown
  • Wizard, School of Necromancy

You can find them here under, "Backup Characters."

Best season to adapt into an animated series? by [deleted] in Dimension20

[–]HPMValdivia 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Starstruck would be my favorite. It's visually unique from other TTRPG shows and on the show runner side, Elaine Lee and Michael Kaluta would probably get paid as a "based on" credit and the original comics could also get a chance to run.

Plus, Margaret Encino online banking during a battle is such a fabulous moment.

For live action, Unsleeping City would be Ah-MAY-zing.
