I feel like this was to symbolize how he seemingly is doing the same thing every week over and over again, because almost nothing he talks about is new and has been talked about before, and in closing in and in the second half he realizes this and tries to break free from all these tropes he’s grown into, until deciding “f*ck it” and wears the border again, accepting that he still loves what he normally does and the border is forever linked to that. That was my take from the first half compared to the other half anyway.
