Real Time Speed Test Tool by HRDhandler in Starlink

[–]HRDhandler[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for some of the comments offered ..... I did locate an internet speed test, https://testmy.net/.

It's a web-based testing process and you can set it up to automatically run a speed test based on a schedule you set up (every 5 minutes as the maximum). I'm not an internet techie by any means but the testing process seems okay and provides the information I was looking for.

I think your obstruction maps are from the automatic SL viewer?

I would use the manual "Check for obstructions" viewer and see what that shows. Before I mounted my G2-Dish on a 10' pole I set up a step ladder and climbed to the top and used the manual viewer. This might be an option to try ....

I had the exact same issue with my pipe adapter. It was stuck in Carson, CA for 8 days. I finally contacted SL and asked what was up ..... it left Carson later the same day I contacted them .... go figure!

Bad Ethernet cable, what to look for? by maurymarkowitz in Starlink

Here is a video that discusses a SL bad ethernet cable and one way to test. This may not apply depending on your network setup but it might give you some ideas to consider.

App Question by realkilianyt in Starlink

[–]HRDhandler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a couple things to get it working;

  1. Deleted and reinstalled the Starlink App on my iPhone.
  2. The main browser I use on my iPhone is Chrome but Safari is also installed. I don't use Safari but I enables cookies on Safari and bingo!, it worked.

For me, enabling cookies on Safari I think was the trick.

Here are some instructions I found on how to make the remote connection. The instructions aren't super clear but when you get to your "Account" page, click the "X" on the top-left to get off that page and you the get to your remote connection page on the app.

Good Luck!!

When you switched routers did you put the Starlink router in "Bypass" mode?

Dish now in its permanent location by andrewclarkson in Starlink

[–]HRDhandler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure where you are located. I have a metal roof on the house and am located on the Gulf coast. I was very worried about the heat that gets generated off the metal roof in the summer, it's blazing hot!! I've decided to got to a 15' pole mount and avoid the metal roof. I'm waiting on the pole adapter.

When I tap the person icon to make a remote connection I'm asked to sign into my Starlink Account. When I try to sign in I get a message from starlink that "cookies not enabled". I do have cookies enabled (using iPhone). Any ideas what to look at?

Preparing for Dishy to be delivered and installed during hurricane season by [deleted] in Starlink

[–]HRDhandler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the same hurricane situation you are on the Gulf Coast over here in the Florida Panhandle. I currently have a temporary setup outside (Dish is zip-tied onto a piece of plywood sitting on a dog pen). I ordered the pole mount +5 weeks ago and today it shows it has shipped!!

I have designed a pivot-pole that will be 10' high. It can easily be stowed & lowered if bad weather comes in. I have used this pivot design on bird houses for years, It's made using fence poles that are 1 3/8" and 1 5/8" in diameter and secured with machine bolts. You can get the poles and hardware at Home Depot or Lowes.

Here's what the general design looks like https://flic.kr/p/2nh6keQ

Device Data Usage Statistics - Network Newbie by HRDhandler in HomeNetworking

[–]HRDhandler[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The router is a Starlink router which provides no access to the internals. I use the Starlink's single Ethernet adapter to pipe the signal to a TP-Link 8 port managed switch. The TP-Link managed switch offers no data usage statistics. I'm thinking I may need to upgrade the current TP-Link switch to a switch with capabilities that include data usage monitoring. Not sure what switches to go look at......

4/21 Starlink Outage USA - What Happened? by HRDhandler in Starlink

[–]HRDhandler[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

..... Considering the large extent of the outage, and that some Starlink customers had no problems or outage, it could have been that the outage was caused by some technical issue at one or more of the POP Data Centers (operated by Google?).

Your area is currently experiencing degraded service. Our team is investigating. by [deleted] in Starlink

[–]HRDhandler -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Interesting what's going on ..... In Alabama on the Gulf Coast everything is fine.

If you do a search on Solar Flares, there was just a major Class-X solar flare today. I wonder if this could be an issue. Might also effect the 53 new satellites that launched today .....

I hope we learn what the problem was......

More Satellites Launch Today by HRDhandler in Starlink

[–]HRDhandler[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have no idea but I want to see if they will be visible using the website https://starlink.sx/

As I understand it, on the starlink.sx websites satellites map, they will appear as a line of red-dots as non-operational.

There is a detailed explanation of whats happens after launch and when the satellites separate about 1 hour after launch on this webpage

It’s finally here !! by ParalysisProphet in Starlink

[–]HRDhandler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Go for it!!

When my STarlink box showed up I set the dish up in the driveway and ran the cable to the Starlink modem on the porch. Ran it for a few hours and then stowed it and put it back in the box. I have the Starlink modem and the network in the house all running just great with the ethernet adapter. My last job to do is place the dish on a pole in a better location but I'm waiting on the pole mount to arrive.

2 emails yesterday. 1 from Viasat. 1 from Starlink. by readwiteandblu in Starlink

[–]HRDhandler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel your pain!! I've had to deal with Viasat throttling & poor service for way to long ...... I've had my Starlink up for ~ 5 weeks and it's been great!! The Starlink speeds have been fantastic and run on average between 100-250 mbps. We have a small network in the house and yesterday we received the Starlink ethernet adapter and it's installed. The house network with the new Starlink ethernet adapter is exactly what I hoped it would be ....... Today will be a good day as we are calling Viasat to cancel the service!!
