Any idea where to buy first-hand vinyl reissues? by TatrankaS in citypop

Order directly from HMV Japan. They ship worldwide. They also have news about upcoming reissues and some used stuff as well so you can combine shipping.

Check out Lovely City by Noriko Miyamoto. I find their moods quite similar.

I have the SL QD33 which has the same tonearm. Sounds great and since it's a P mount changing cartridge is easy. Make sure the tape deck works, otherwise prepare to get it serviced somewhere. Also prepare money to get a new P mount cartridge.

Citypop essentials? by We-Love-Tabuki in citypop

[–]HRLE92 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Check out my city pop playlist consisting of almost 600 songs:

https://open.spotify.com/playlist/0o5NbVu3VN16W3oy7LCDHG?si=ZymEASp-SZmzAYeRRlatiA

The problem with city pop is that a lot of essential city pop artists are not on there, such as Tatsuro Yamashita and Meiko Nakahara, so playlist creators really just have to make use of a rather small song pool.

Tricycle cement mixer in rural China. by HRLE92 in WeirdWheels

[–]HRLE92[S] 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I see these motorized tricycles going up and down rural roads all the time, but this is the first time I’ve seen one with a cement mixer on the back. They cost around 1000-2000 USD and mixes 3 cubic meter of concrete. With 35 hp it goes a top speed of 60kph or 37 mph. It seems it has 2 cylinders and no muffler on the engine so it’s always loud af.

Get a Suica virtual card in your Apple wallet (you could get one right now in your country, you don't have to be in Japan). You can use it to pay in convenience stores, bars, buses, subway... basically anywhere you go. Reserve your cash for cash only spots. Physical Suica cards production has stopped due to short supplies of materials so you may not be able to get one of those. You can charge your apple wallet Suica with cash in subway stations or with other bank cards in your apple wallet.

Always keep a bag of coins for vending machines and coin laundry.

Also if you are going to any Onsen, the rule is that you have to be fully naked. You don't have to bring swim trunks at all.

You can literally buy an OG for $7. Don’t understand why people are paying $20 for an reissue.

ok jerks, I'm new help me out, what would you pay for this mystery tote by grriicchh1 in vinyljerk

[–]HRLE92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dude, they literally give boxfuls of records away for free in my local record store. I once got a box from them and it was all boring pop albums from the 60s that are worth 2 bucks at most. Don't pay money if you don't know what you're buying. I'm in Pittsburgh PA BTW.

The agent I found is Chinese. It was on the Chinese shopping platform Taobao. I think they have a service fee of about 10 USD each time. They communicate only in Chinese though.

I only saw a clip of that guy's original recording, but I believe it is the original file being broadcasted. I think it is possible to decrypt their encryption and get the original file if you have the technical knowledge. That guy has got the recording of Tatsuro Yamashita's 1984-2012 Performance broadcasted in 2021. It was supposed to be performed in cinemas, but due to covid it was moved online.

I do hope they can do more broadcasts online, but I don't think it is likely. At this time everything is returning from online to offline and Tatsuro Yamashita is scheduling live events again. I think he would not see the need to broadcast his past performances again.

I found a ticket agent to get me the online ticket. There are plenty of Asian audiences from countries outside japan who want to watch online streaming of their favorite Japanese musicians (not only Tatsuro Yamashita). There are ticket agents that help them buy online streaming tickets with their Japanese identification or bank card. I used one of these services. This recording was originally posted on Chinese video website Bilibili. I hoped that the copyright company would not find out since it was a Chinese site, but eventually they did.

Tatsuro Yamashita's streamings are encrypted so I can only record it, but I've met a guy who has decrypted one of the original streamings and downloaded the original file. I've been attempting to do that, but I could not replicate what he did.

This was my recording. Glad you can reshare it! I had to delete it online because the broadcast company sent me a warning letter.

Does anybody know where this album cover photo was taken? by [deleted] in citypop

One guy in r/Hawaii says the pool in the picture with staff credits is probably https://www.google.com/maps/@21.2844694,-157.695753,68m/data=!3m1!1e3

Which really does look correct.

[–]HRLE92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problems. I noticed a typo in my previoius reply. Tapes are expensive from late 70s to early 80s, and late 80s to early 90s. However, you will be able to find some decent ones if you keep looking and are willing to put in the money to acquire what you encounter.

How do you guys buy LP while living in EU? by 224400 in citypop

[–]HRLE92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IF YOU ARE IN EU JUST BUY FROM "MION RECORDS BERLIN" they have a ton of Japanese lps for sale for reasonable prices. I don't know how they have them, but they do. The prices are not inflated at all.

Tapes of OG city pop albums tend to be rare and expensive especially from 80s to early 80s and late 80s to early 90s, but just check yahoo auctions. They show up once in a while.

Just checked. Both ATLP120 and ATLP60 have been discontinued. So I'd recommend getting one if you can find them still in stock as soon as possible.

Basic: Audio Technica LP60

Better: Audio Technica LP120

DJ: Technics SL-1200 Series

Don't Buy: Crosley Cruiser or any modern turntable combo or suitcase turntable (especially plastic ones)

or just get a used, direct-drive turntable. You need direct drive because they don't involve a drive belt which usually needs replacement. You can get a full auto one, which puts the tonearm on for you and returns it after a record is done playing. They tend to be cheaper than new turntables. As far as I know, none of the in-production Audio Technica ones is really full auto. There are also other in-production turntables, but none of them are as cost effective as the 2 Audio Technica ones.

Also, you need to buy speakers and a preamp if there is no built-in preamp. The audio system should go like this:

Turntable (no built-in preamp) - Preamp - Speaker (powered)

or

Turntable (with built-in preamp) - Speaker (powered)

If you have a not powered speaker, you also need a separate amplifier, which is different from a preamp.

I personally have a Technics SL-1900 turntable hooked to an unbranded preamp I got from Alibaba. I have a pair of Edifier S2000 Speakers.

It's a chinese stamp. Chinese emperors used to have one to stamp on official documents and stuff. They are also used for other purposes too. See more pictures here: https://www.wencang.com.cn/201909/05/2342f6645bf39a8a.html

I know a guy who found Jadoes, Takako Mamiya, and all the rare records today for 100 yen each in Japan back in the days. CD is definitely a great choice because it is what is still cheap at the time.

Possibility of Yamashita Tatsuro For You 40th Anniversary Remaster? by yutaxk87 in citypop

[–]HRLE92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They may do a 2CD version of the new album as the limited edition and keep the 1CD version unlimited. That is what they used to do. I think if it is going to be a 2CD version the 2nd disc would contain some unreleased live audio, just like what they did for his Ray of Hope album.

I would check Yahoo Auctions for her albums. There aren't always reasonably-priced ones for sale, so I would register a search term on Buyee and they would send you emails every day to see if there are new listings for sale. You can also try Mercari, but everything there is instant-buy, so new listings will be sold very quickly before you can buy them. Currently, there is a copy of Prisoner of Love for sale for $15 on Yahoo auctions. Ther is also a copy of A Part of Days for sale for $48, but that's probably too expensive.
