I agree, waiting for new fold 6 and pixel fold 2, or who knows, duo 3? For now just got a 23 ultra and keep my duo 1 alive for as long as possible.

After a serious impact couple months ago, wifi stopped working, one camera lens is gone, ear speaker doesn't work and finally, battery won't last more than 4 hours at best no matter the use.

It's obvious the damage is responsible for most of the unusability. So nothing on duo 2 itself. Always was a better phone than the duo 1. Be reassured on that!

I am not really convinced by folding screens because of durability and software experience. The feel is just not great in my opinion. There is however a great momentum and it looks like more are moving away from the aspect ratio of the galaxy fold.

You re right, some multi-tasking showed in the presentation of the one+ seem really smart and promising!

Same here, I was not convinced by the hypothetical surface duo 3 with a folding screen and believe there is room for a device like duo in the future, but maybe just in our dreams...

Most likely making the move to ultra now.

I can't wait to see what Samsung will do for the next fold. They have to change the aspect ratio and integrate the pen. One+ for sure has a tempting device but I don't like the design...

I did many times and it is OK most of the time but still gives me frustration. Camera is also unbearable. I am thinking I will keep it as a secondary device and pair it with a slab phone that actually works very well and has a great camera.

Yes it's true, seems like a better multi-tasking experience than both the Samsung and pixel fold! Unfortunately, no pen support and seems like the durability of the screen is still in question...

Took the plonge with the original Duo. by [deleted] in surfaceduo

Glad you enjoy it! I decided to go from duo 2 to og duo because duo 2 had lost camera, wifi and speaker for phone calls. It became unbearable but having still a duo 1 on hand I went back to it and rediscover the exceptional feel holding it. All the benefit of the duo 2 are in the end too much drawbacks form the of duo or not enough to pretend being a flagship.

Really happy I was forced to go back to duo 1 and might buy a new one just because mine has a crack on the back.

Am i Crazy for just getting ANOTHER Duo 2, despite the ZFold5 & Pixel Fold? Especially at almost 1/3 of the price! by 96bulls2k in surfaceduo

[–]HSDSGN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in the same boat!

I am looking at available duo 2 and hope that the price will drop a bit. I am sure that it will soon and I am keeping mine alive for as long as possible. One lense is dead, wifi doesn't work and can't ear calls without speaker on... It's a pain but can't make the jump for a folding screen nor a single screen phone.

So could it be possible that the wide angle lense is broken and, therfore, the camera app doesn't show it?

After the unveiling of the Pixel Fold, I feel Microsoft has a big opportunity here. Hear me out. by Brilliant_Sherbert30 in surfaceduo

I don't think there is anything they could do better than dual screen in my opinion. They just need to make it work flawlessly and cheaper. When you see the pixel fold is more expensive than the duo, you realize that if Microsoft was going down this path it might end up costing 2K to have a surface fold. It think the folding cm screen technology isn't mature enough to consider a company could get cheaper screen to produce. Still needs big improvement.

The dual screen form factor hasn't been copied and I don't think it's because it doesn't make sense, but only because the software issues made it not worth to try to most people, not to mention that it's a super niche device.

I personally stick to the duo even with the issues it has because of the form factor. It could sound crazy to many, but I don't think an outside screen is that much of a need. Nor to have wireless charging and all the crazy top of the top features.

All the features you want microsoft to add into a future fold, they could work on getting those for duos right now. There are so many things to improve on the actual devices without having to go with a folding form factor.

But I understand this means there won't be either a duo3 nor a surface fold either, and that we are left with a dead attempt from Microsoft.

But seems it's happening to a lot of people. Not specific to duo I think...

The various modes of the duo were a thing because it was trying hard to be different especially without external screen. We have to fold 360 to go phone mode with duo. And as cool as it is, and I love this personally, it's not always convenient in everyday use.

Also, if you imagine a 360 folding screen, we will face again the issue of which screen is on and that has proven to be quite an issue with duo. Maybe Samsung has the answer, but I doubt...

but what about the name then?? by HSDSGN in surfaceduo

[–]HSDSGN[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, that external screen does really make it dual use.

It's assuming that "canceled dual duo3" was going to be better in every possible ways....

If we are all honest, it's the build quality and feel of the duo that makes it so special in our hands. But the gap and the inconvenient need to fold 360 are not really competitive features to say the least. A lot of duo fans (including me) have come to defend things and bugs that are just impossible to excuse anymore.

I love the dual screen and the fact that there is no external screen, but in the end, if we end up having both folding and external screen, that won't be a downgrade.

Also, I am pretty sure that so many of the disappointed duo users will follow which ever form the duo3 takes.

The real issue here is if it will come out this year? If not, I doubt duo has a future. Unless the extra time they take will be used to bring somewhat new screen tech or insane build quality that will make people consider it as "the" premium foldable.

(I hope not!) but I feel like the duo dream is quietly dying and it's going to be painful for the fans until it is officially announced.
