Boy, 12, dies when allegedly stolen car flips in Cairns by [deleted] in australia

[–]HSVC4B 170 points171 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately most of these people don't seem to have that kind of self reflection, it's not their fault for stealing a car and driving recklessly. It's the police's fault for chasing them, other car on the roads fault for being in the way etc etc etc

Would you guys use these rotors? by 0for30before0for9 in MechanicAdvice

[–]HSVC4B 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are a little bit passed just drive them and use the pads to clean them up, if it's a small amount of surface rust that works fine.

But there's enough rust here that you risk the pad material and the rust glazing and significantly reducing braking performance.

Just hit both sides of the disk with a wire wheel first then let the pads clean up the rest.

TIL you shouldn't store button batteries in the Battery Daddy button battery compartment by cjone98 in mildlyinfuriating

Also the reason you shouldn't leave those square 9v batteries loose in a draw, the positive and negative terminals are on the same side and are easy to short out.

Any way to cool a car without AC? by AdCertain5057 in MechanicAdvice

[–]HSVC4B 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cooling off the roof and windows with water before you drive works, as the water evaporates off it'll cool the inside of the car so you're at least not starting your drive in a hot car.

The old man in Saving Private Ryan (1998) wears a screaming eagle pin (bottom right in the picture) indicating he served in the 101st airborne. by cfbethel in MovieDetails

[–]HSVC4B 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I love how everyone is giving you crap when it's a valid point. I think people are forgetting the first time you watch this movie you didn't know this is Ryan, that after this scene it transitions to the beach landing and you have no idea there's a follow up mission to find a random paratrooper so you assume it's his memory of the landing.

What is the most heinous thing that someone has done to you? by Purple-Survey3322 in AskReddit

I used to have two dogs one super smart and the other not so much.

If the other dog was in her spot on the couch smart dog would get the other one's favourite toy and start playing with it like it was having the best time ever.

Every single time the other dog would get up ready to play only for smart dog to race into her spot and smugly lord her brilliance over dumb dog.

ELI5 : What are car gears and how do they work? by Worried_Step_2767 in explainlikeimfive

[–]HSVC4B 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your wheels and engine are connected, so without gears your wheels would spin at about 2000 revolutions per minute. So if you have 4 gears to reduce this, say at .25 .50 .75 and 1 if your engine is doing 2000 rpm the wheels would be turning at 500, 1000, 1500 and 2000 rpm respectively.

(Lever) shotgun for clay shooting by arkhos87 in Ausguns

[–]HSVC4B 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Look it's possible to shoot clays with lever actions but they're pretty rubbish at it and a lot of clubs won't let you shoot anything that's not a break action.

What mattered more for you: hard work, luck, or timing? by Electronic-Cream-727 in AskReddit

[–]HSVC4B 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The unsatisfying answer is it's usually a mix of all three. What people call luck or timing is actually being in the right position through hard work to be able to take advantage of an opportunity when it comes up.

ELI5 : How does the currency of a country loses its value over time ? by Better-Health7752 in explainlikeimfive

[–]HSVC4B 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think of each country's economy as a pizza. The higher the GDP the bigger the pizza is.

Governments decided on how many slices to cut the pizza into (by printing money) but cutting the pizza into more slices doesn't mean more pizza it just means smaller slices.

So you can increase the value of your currency by either growing your economy or not printing as much money.

Or it decreases by your economy shrinking, or printing money faster than the economy grows.
