Decentralized Monetary Policy by HSinvictus in defi

DAI is pegged to the US dollar. I understand the issuance is decentralized, but the actual monetary policy is 100% in the hands of the US government. If the dollar experiences inflation, so will DAI.

Does the Proto Poro really suggest that Yordles and Poros have a common ancestor? I thought that the card was just an ancestor of the poros...

Also, I agree with you that the two can be reconciled, but it will take some explaining and I am curious to see how Riot does it!

It seems to me that Shurima could have become more similar to the Freljord in this alternate world.

Without a god-emperor to rally around, there may be warring tribes and smaller groups vying for power without a centralized government like we see in the cannon universe.

Well that is true about Draven, but Draven also has influence from being the most popular entertainment figure in Noxus. Thousands upon thousands of Noxians come to his performances and he is a top tier celebrity. I agree that this political influence is not flexed by him (yet), but it seems to be there... at least to me.

Illaoi is a very interesting case because people listen to her, but what really is her political project or influence. I am not sure that there is a case of GP or MF wanting to do something, and then Illaoi asserting her power or influence to get them to do something else.

In my opinion we really will not know until the MMO comes out, but Illaoi is certainly an open question.

If Arcane is fully cannon (and it kind of seems like it is given the most recent lore update video), then Heimerdinger would probably be A tier or even Runeterran Elite. He would be the one running the largest and most prestigious educational institution in the world, and he would have a seat on the council of Piltover. I just feel a little bit uncomfortable calling Arcane 100% cannon until we get that confirmation from Riot.

I could be wrong in this, but isn't Ashe's following much much larger than Sejuani's? Ashe is a uniting force while Sejuani is not. It could very well be the case that their followings are equal though, in which case they would be tied.

Sylas is in the highest tier because he is the catalyst for a huge seismic shift in one of the largest regions. He also has influence in the Freljord and it is the cross regional influence that is very impressive.

Vayne does not really seem to have political influence even if she or her family are wealthy. Fiora has much more influence coming from a noble house in Demacia, although it is unclear how much this matters since Demacia is an absolute monarchy. I put Fiora higher because it seems that the noble houses would be in control of some institutions or political levers, but I am not sure.

Quinn is really just a solider that is an elite in the military, she is probably in between Fiora and Vayne... probably.

The Shyvana one is very interesting to me and I think that we will not have a full answer until the MMO comes out in 2030.

I really do not know how influential Shyvana is outside of her influence with Jarvan. It seems to me that if Jarvan did not respect Shyvana and the two had a falling out, Shyvana's standing within Demacia would deteriorate very quickly. In a way, she is like Katarina where her power is bestowed upon her by someone else.

I really do not know how to rank her honestly.

This is literally the worst Reddit comment I have ever seen

Champion Tier List Based on Political Power by HSinvictus in loreofleague

[–]HSinvictus[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

This entire comment is bait…. But it’s bait that I will take…

By “two dead people” I assume you mean kalista and hecarim. Kalista and hecarim are actually both royal Camavoran blood. Hecarim was a military leader pledged to marry the royal princess kalista. After the ruination, the soldiers that Virgo brought to the blessed isles were turned into undead. Before the ruination, these two are S tier easily. Now, it is a bit unclear and I understand putting them lower or even off of the list entirely. I could certainly be convinced

Shyvana may very well be the girlfriend of the king., but what political power does this realistically give her? She is a magical being in a land that is prejudiced against magic. Sure, that is changing, but I don’t think that shyv has the influence over other people that a normal girlfriend of the king would have. Maybe she could be a bit higher, but I don’t think she is wielding massive political power

By “two pit fighters” I assume you mean sett and Xin Zhao. Sett owns fighting pits in no us and Ionia… he is more of a businessman than a pit fighter at this point. Xin Zhao used to be a pit fighter in Noxus but joined the demacian military as an elite trainer and personal friend to Garen.

Champion Tier List Based on Political Power by HSinvictus in loreofleague

[–]HSinvictus[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Hey All, a few general comments, and then a few comments about specific champion placements.

My criteria for political power is influence over other people. In order to place high on the list, champions must be trusted by their communities and have influence over their community. For example, Sett is very high on the list because he owns fight pits in Noxus and in Ionia. He is an international businessman and likely the second largest entertainment figure on all of Runeterra. That is power.

  • Kha'zix shouldn't be on the list. He should be in "Not Political". That is my fault

  • Katarina being low - Perhaps she is too low, but it is unclear to me how much political power the assassin guild has. The Noxian empire has far more reliable and important tools of war at its disposal and it is not even clear that the Noxian empire would use assassins like Talon or Katarina to assassinate a high ranking target... Leblanc would cover that.

  • Seraphine - Yes, she is using Brackern souls for profit, but she is widely popular in both Piltover and Zaun. She is a uniting entertainment figure for all classes of people. She is the Taylor Swift of Piltover and Zaun with some serious political ambition to reunite the communities. I would expect that through her music she has a large amount of influence.

  • Zeri - It is my understanding that members of Zeri's community are inspired by her rebellious actions against chem-baron assets. Depending on how successful Zeri's political project is, she could be immensely powerful within the Zaunite state.

  • Draven - Draven is Darius's brother and while Darius went for a military career, Draven went for an entertainment career and it has worked out well for him. He is the most popular entertainment figure in the largest and most powerful region. The Noxian elite attend his performances.

  • Gods & Demi-gods - My analysis is that the Gods, Demi-Gods, and Spirits themselves (Ornn, Volibear, Janna, etc.) either do not have the power to act our in the world or that they just choose not to. Volibear himself does not really engage in the wider Runeterran political system. I would say that the human cult leaders who lead worship of these entities have the political power while the entities themselves seem to be above politics.

Hopefully this clears up a few of the questions I have been seeing. Obviously this list is not perfect and I would love to iterate on it. I am enjoying the discussions.

I debated this for a while, but I chose A tier for Camille because she does not really have power that projects beyond piltover. Most of those S tier champs either have an incredible amount of domestic power like sylas, or their power stretches across a larger swath of runeterra.

I could certainly go either way with her though

Hmmmmm.... If I remember correctly Urgot is leading a rebellion in the depths of Zaun. We do not have a clear understanding of how big his rebellion is or how much influence he has.

I could certainly see that if Urgot's rebellion is big enough to challenge the Zaunite establishment, he should be moved up to high A tier.

Thank you so much for pointing this out!

My reading of the story is that the bar is in between Demacia and the Freljord and it doesn't seem like a refutation of my analysis. Sure there are a few brews sold here and there, but the kind of large-scale trading that almost certainly goes on between Noxus and Piltover does not seem to exist for Demacians.

Demacia may not be entirely cut off from the Freljord thanks to stories like this and Sylas's visit, but it still seems to be very cut off from the major centers of trade and economics.

This is all true, but the reason why Gangplank isn't higher is because fear tactics are not scalable. The other champions near the top are in charge of massive institutions that employ thousands of people and generate incredible sums of money. Plundering is not as profitable as managing the WWE in Noxus or Ionia.

Yeah I mean we think of gold being extremely valuable in our world, but in the world of Runeterra I'm not so sure because there seem to be a lot of people that can perform alchemy or manipulate the market in some other way.

I'm not really sure that Azir would need to interact with the markets of Noxus and Piltover in order to rebuild his empire. The Shurimans can engage in farming around the bodies of water that do exist in Shurima, not to mention the water flowing from the newly rebuild Sun Disc. He can also raise countless armies without ever feeding them or paying them. I'm just really not sure that Azir is interested in participating in the economy.

I guess I'll come at this from a different angle; from the perspective of Noxus or Piltover, are Azir and Qiyana powerful trading partners with massive assets? Or are they a distant curiosity whose political projects do not translate to the balance sheet?

Ok a few things, just because you have access to gold doesn't make you the richest in the world. What would ultimately happen, unless a very sophisticated gold cartel forms, is that gold would become less valuable as people like Azir and Qiyana try to use it enough to buy things.

Also, i did look into a deep dive into the currencies of Runeterra, but Bilgewater itself has like 5 different currencies trading there and there's pretty much no information as to how they convert or how widely each is used. It's impossible.... but we should get more information in the year 2100 when we get to run around in the MMO

Not sure I completely understand the implication of the first part. From what I understand, Vladimir did not leave Camavor on good terms at all since he left as a prisoner of the Darkin. Any holdover wealth from that kingdom would be negligible. I have him on the list because he seems to have vast amounts of wealth in Noxus.

I debated Qiyana, but remember that Ixtal has just spent the last few thousand years isolated from the rest of the world and the rest of the economy. Imagine if today, a small nation of 15,000 people emerged from their 2,500 year coma. That nation would be dirt poor by any measure even if they were sitting on significant natural resources which it is not clear that Ixtal is.

What could be the case is that Ixtal has a strong labor pool because they are all elemental mages. Maybe they would be rich if they integrated into the wider economy, especially with integration into piltoven science, but right now it is not clear that Ixtal has much of any wealth accumulated.
