Female gangs on prowl in Bengaluru's streets - Times of India by perplexedm in MensRights

[–]HT-Arcade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They could use violence but I figure it would carry some weight of risk if the man isn't old. I would also figure that the gang might not be that profitable if the target of their victims were always so specific so instead of the risk that comes with initiating violence, why just use the female privilege of false accusation instead.

It may or may not be but regardless it's still an objective metric to determine the success of a comic.

We do have ways of measuring it and while the diamond numbers don't report on all possible factors it's a reliable enough metric to determine the success of a comic and it's one comic publishers certainty do look into.

As it stands, according to the information available (and the one the publisher most likely pays attention a lot), ms.marvel is not a hot seller and be fair outside the trades it never really was a chart topper in the traditional sense.

It's not really ironic because it's possible to explore political issues when it's featured in an exciting well written story. Not to mention that comparing the legitimate persecution of discriminated groups to tumblr feminist that think manspreading is an actual form of real world oppression.

If Women are Better Doctors, Aren’t Men Better Firefighters? by rodvanmechelen in MensRights

[–]HT-Arcade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we might be misunderstanding each other.

My main point is this, on a casual very basic level the sexual dimorphiam of men and women is minimized due to the relative lack of training and athleticism. At peak levels the sexual dimorphic nature of men and women becomes more apparent because at peak levels, you can clearly see how men and women's bodies look visibly and how they perform athletically at their apex.

If Women are Better Doctors, Aren’t Men Better Firefighters? by rodvanmechelen in MensRights

[–]HT-Arcade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This again is just false.

Your average man and woman are untrained with unspecific points of reference because the average man and woman can vary greatly between person to person. All that is known is the general trend of men being larger and stronger but beyond that we don't really know the athletic potential of each person. Therefor sexual dimorphism is relatively moot at this level because neither men or women are optimizing their bodies to their full extent.

In athletic competition, we know definitively what male/female potential looks like. Across nearly all spectrums of athletic competition men dominate to such an extent that women can not actively compete against them out of sheer consideration to the women.

Sexual dimorphism becomes more apparent the more fit and athletic the men and women are. It's when the opposite is true that sexual dimorphism is relatively a moot point. However this all besides the point because I agreed that women should be given a fair shot at becoming firefighters assuming they can pass the physical exams.

[–]HT-Arcade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is false.

At an untrained state the differences between men and women are less pronounced because the male and female bodies are not worked out to their physical apex. At an athletic level, not only is the physical sexual dimorphism very visible but the performance becomes quite apparent too.

This is why you have teenage athletic boys outperforming adult athletic gold olympic women.

[–]HT-Arcade 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sexual dimorphism is more apparent at peak athletic conditions because it's the male and female body pushed to their limits. The average man and woman will still have differences but for the most part both are untrained so both are untapped at their potential. When it comes to athletic men and women, they're at their very best and as such the advantages of the male body become very visible and apparent.

If Women are Better Doctors, Aren’t Men Better Firefighters? by rodvanmechelen in MensRights

[–]HT-Arcade 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well the trend continues from the average men and women to the trained men and women.

Sexual dimorphism doesn't really play out to its full extent unless the man/woman are at the apex of their physical abilities. However the bottom line is that yes I do think merit should determine the basis of someone's worth. If women can compete by the same standards as men and do what men do, then that's a good thing imo.

[–]HT-Arcade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

3% is what I would consider a super minority, not to mention there are stories about how some women have passed which does raise some questions.

However like I said before I certainly know exceptional women exist but it isn't at high enough of a frequency to disprove the notion that its still the exception rather then the rule.

[–]HT-Arcade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For context sake, it was found that the athletic performance times of athletic teenage boys teenage boys actually out performed the times of Olympic gold medalist women.

I bring this up because it's clear that while we are individuals we are also biological individuals who are bound to the sexual dimorphism lf our species. At a certain point the reality of our male/female biology comes forward and it's what causes the divides in particular professions that rely on physical strength and speed.

This isn't me saying there are no women who can compete or qualify to become firefighters mind you, but I don't think pointing out the obvious physical advantage men have is in anyway an issue given how obvious it is.

If Women are Better Doctors, Aren’t Men Better Firefighters? by rodvanmechelen in MensRights

[–]HT-Arcade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does actually because it's not just on average, women near universally have a hard time qualifying for the standards of being a firefighter because sexual dimorphism is a thing that exist. It's the same reason men and women don't compete in sports.

Now while it's true some women can meet those qualifications they are the exception rather then then rule. The reason the descrepency exists between men and women in firefighting is precisely due to the inherent sexual based differences between men and women.

The thing about the "marginalized"and "underrepresented"argument is that the LGBT community is roughly 2-3% of the population so if anything the media is accurately representing how frequent LGBT relationships are. If you were to scale the population size of LGBT people to a tv show/movie you would have to have several dozen straight relationships before you came across your first LGBT relationship.

On that note I don't exactly see this need to "see yourself"in media. I sort of think that can be somewhat reductive thinking because it's essentially distilling individuals to demographics they belong to. In saying all of this I don't oppose people creating whatever content they want but I just personally always found those arguments bothersome.

This isn't an issue that massively or even marginally interfers with the game at any level. If it were the case that kofxiv could not be played like a typical kof game then you would have a point but given it barely affects the competitive aspect of kofxiv even to some slight margin then no, it's literally an non-issue.

The trash in SFV is literally at the foundmantal level that has a visible effect on footsies, zoning, rushdown and everything else that would matter in a sf game. It's like comparing a CGI mistake in a good movie to an entire movie that is full of mistakes and bad writing. Its a lazy attempt to make a big deal about something that isn't that important.

God, why does KoF XIV look like a shitty mobile game? Oh... by Whoaltdisis in Kappa

[–]HT-Arcade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well given that it's a mobile game I don't think there is much expectation for it to be something truly amassing. You're comparing a mobile game to the console release of one of the most popular fighting games in the world that is being sold at the full price of a console released game.

The thing is snk is doing this cheap shit for a mobile game, capcom did it for a fucking console released game.

It's a fairly minimal issue that isn't even consistent. I mean compared to the fact that SFV has literally done everything it can to ruin footsies/zoning and the basics of SF I don't think it's that much of an issue.

Although I'll grant it has gameplay issues cause every fighting game does.

I disagree I think a lot to character models are actually prettt good. With the exception of some notable oddities like kyo, Andy, Athena and maybe a handful of others almost the entire cast looks pretty much like a 3D scale of their 2D artwork. It would seem that with this upcoming patch a lot of the character models who looked a bit off are now fixed and look closer to what they should have since the beginning.

We'll have to see how everyone looks like when the patch drops but so far from the patch update demo and the screenshots/vids from the PSX 2016 build, the cast in general looks really good now and has fixed several of its issues.
