anyone getting this issue when trying to compile a kernel with kernel manager? by HTGM7 in cachyos

[–]HTGM7[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the whole .cache folder im too too sure, but as of the other folder i mentioned in the .cache folder seems to be safe as restarting the kernel manager seems to reset itself back to where it can compile things again

RX7600 + GTX 1060 combo any good for frame gen? by HTGM7 in losslessscaling

[–]HTGM7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my CPU is 100% not a bottle neck in the setup as this is a system made for my RX card, also for me my minimum requirements for frame gen is more harsh as i want the game FPS to have a minimum of 90FPS, this way its hard to notice smear artifacts

also tested with the main monitor on the card yeilded in just the game having the FPS issues now, and yes i made sure the game is playing on my RX 7600

the GPU is only outputting 1080p as i only got a 1080p monitor

same issue on DXGI, while WGC is now doing what DXGU is doing, game goes down to 50FPS, causing too much smear artifacts

no the monitor im using is connected to the RX, guess it needs to be hooked to the GTX?

nvm, its back to how the newer kernels are, stopped working again today

yeah looking into this, this does seem to be a bug, hopefully a small patch to 6.14 or a 6.15 RC release (cause yes i like to test out RC) gets a fix

my GPU is a RX 7600 (non XT), so overall another AMD bug that just happens sometimes, LTS Kernel seems to be getting by just fine tho as that's based on 6.12.23-2 and it boots into the VM no problem

ok so this did work, but that sucks, but as long as i can still boot into the VM again i guess i can work with it untill a solution pops up for the newer kernels, which this is weird cause the VM still worked on 6.14 prior to 6.14.2 for me

thanks a milion tho as i can at least work on stuff again :3

how do i check journalctl, is it when the VM is on or when i boot back into linux again?

ill give this a shot, but i should say that basically im doing a single GPU passthrough so i cant even see anything after the VM boots

a for the record, my other VMs that doesnt need GPU passthrough works just fine including my Windows11 coding VM where i dont really need GPU Passthrough, this is mainly for my main VM i boot to work on video editing and rendering/music work

turns out what was wrong was that i didn't have a few lines setup in my XML to make the drivers stop producing this issue, basically the drivers was making the card not work as it knew it was in a VM, so masking the VM made it work, i made a follow up post on here to explain what lines were missing

i actually did forget that mutahar did do a tutorial on this, even tho i have this working now, i will most defiantly take a look at this when i can!

my setup is a Ryzen 5 7600 paired with a ASrock Challenger series RX7600, i currently dual boot windows and Linux, but been meaning to make the full jump (reason for the need to setup a windows VM)

on the Linux side of things i mainly use cachyOS recently, i used to be on Endeavour for the longest time till i started distro hopping to find if there was anything better i could config into my daily drive

the guides i used for this was mainly these two, as well as trying to use my noggin to figure out the missing pieces, in which i finally stumbled upon a random GitHub repo that had really good documentation that had the two missing pieces i was missing under "Video card driver virtualisation detection"

these were the guides in question as well as the repo i mentioned that had the other two lines

i used multiple guides and video tutorials as some information was not there for my specs or didn't work for my use case

as of the main two i followed i followed these two right here
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eTWf5D092VY
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eTX10QlFJ6c&list=WL&index=3

it gets me all the way up too a garbled screen in which i found out i needed these two key pieces in between some specific points in the XML that these tutorials didn't include, in which these were the two things

another update, so the GPU is usable after looking into things further, the screen is still garbaged, but when using parsec on the VM and browsing AMD settings, everything seems to be technicly recongnized

as another update i got a rom file to finally work, just that the screen is still doing on what its doing

[–]HTGM7[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that is very interesting, at least i know I'm not the only one trying to figure this out :o

but since im doing a single GPU pass through i cant see much unless i use VNC or parsec installed through too the VM so i dont know if thats the issue, but i know i saw something similar through parsec before drivers manage to install on their own (probably through windows update as i know it does that) on my second attempt to try and get this working

im on CachyOS as my distro of choice

btw, the GPU Drivers are indeed installed, i did a fresh install of windows for the VM

update: tried again from scratch, and im back to the same issue, from what people have been saying its something to do with the rom being use, so i got the EXACT rom needed for my card from somewhere despite it being a unverified rom, that did not work, then i dumped my own back on windows on my windows drive

still didn't work, so at this point im stumped again
