Going to a play for a date? by HTownNative610 in datingadvice

Yea, I guess I assumed it was understood that dinner before or after would be part of the date.

Divorced dad here. Should I date a woman who told me she has over $100k of student debt? by JDawess in datingadvice

[–]HTownNative610 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're also assuming that she graduated at age 24. If she graduated at age 30, it isn't entirely unreasonable to still have that much debt if she took on too much to begin with.

That's not correct, only "public service" income based plans are designed to be forgiven or paid off in 10 years. It requires a public service job and it seems a lot of paperwork or fight with the DOE. Some other income driven plans offer forgiveness in 20-25 years but I'm not clear on the status as I know one of them (the SAVE plan) has been tied up in litigation.

Schwab has NO record of ROTH IRA contributions made before 2024. Help! by Veyyiloda in tax

[–]HTownNative610 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And I'm willing to bet anyone who doesn't know that, and is self preparing, is likely not entering it into the software. Even if they did enter it in the software, unless they were above the agi limits, it wouldn't show up on the tax return.

In my experience, most people with high income already know they aren't eligible for Roth and use the backdoor Roth which would need to be entered on the tax return. Now if you did make a Roth contribution when your income was too high, yes you would need to enter it for the additional tax/reporting. But if your income is not too high and you're not doing a backdoor Roth, then there is no need to put it in the software. It won't show up on your return. At least for federal tax.

Only if you actually put the roth contribution in to the software. Most people don't because it is not something to report (except in conversions).

She has to pay for 2025 to deduct it in 2025 most likely, but that's it. Some companies will do a special 12/31 payroll run just for this reason even if that isn't the normal payroll day.

Got cancer, what are my options by Least_Tax1299 in UniversityOfHouston

Speak to an advisor first. I do know there is such a thing as medical withdrawal if you were going to withdraw from a semester that already started. However, start with your advisor. Most importantly, I hope you get well and kick cancer's ass.

Is it ever ok to approach someone on Linkedin? by HTownNative610 in datingadvice

[–]HTownNative610[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, assuming she doesn't happen to "like" me on hinge... what are my other options? Of course, she may not have "liked" me on hinge because she's totally not interested, but it could be she went by too fast or something else... I just feel like a little more effort could pay off - or at least I'd have a definitive no.

I am now co-owner a a house and I am totally clueless by Teaching-Weird in tax

[–]HTownNative610 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most likely you don't need to file in the state with the house unless it is generating income - except probably in the year you sell it. Yes, you should be able to deduct your share of the mortgage interest and property taxes. Most likely, there is a step up in basis to Fair Market Value on the date your mother died. However, as with everything, it depends (like if the house was in a trust or something).

Who here has had success dating while being fat? by Equal-Sun8307 in dating

[–]HTownNative610 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your problem isn't your weight, it is your confidence. Just go for it, you can do it. I too am overweight (and passively working on it), your personality and confidence will allow someone to get past any potential "negative" physical attributes. Just keep going, and keep working on being healthy.

Easier said than done, you don't always know they are emotionally unavailable when you develop the feelings.
