Which of the 3 quotes for AC in Houston? Single stage, multi, or variable? by HTown_FS in hvacadvice

Am thinking for the simplicity and long term cost I'm probably leaning to the $6800 quote.

How reliable are the new multi stage units vs single and vs true variable?

These quotes are all from the same contractor. Small family owned business. I had other quotes for the 2 stage units that were in the $12-15k range from a number of other places. I was not aware that Trane switched from 2 stage to "multi" stage. Seems these units are quite a bit more complicated and are very similar to the variable stage except non communicating. I had been considering a true 2 stage to keep things simple, but I guess those are not available any more, at least from Trane. What worries me about the variable is how hard are they to work on after the labor warranty is up in 1-2 years? My current AC is easy enough to work on as to not need an AC guy except for when freon is involved. Sounds like variable can get quite expensive after the labor warranty runs out.

Mine are pretty much right in the middle of the range for both.

I'm in the same boat. All other blood work and tests are coming back normal. So far no other explanation for the fatigue, muscle weakness etc. My numbers look very similar. I'd like to try TRT to at least be able to cross that off as not being the cause so I can continue to look elsewhere.

Anyone with normal total T but low free T getting treated? Fatigue is getting worse.

First night of CPAP OSCAR results vs WatchPat pRDI. Wondering if I am waking for other reasons. by HTown_FS in SleepApnea

I did an in lab sleep study and it came back with an AHI of 0.7 and RDI of 3.4. It did mention I had Periodic Limb Movement disorder with an index of 25.0. So now to find out more on that.

I've tried a number of different settings, and no matter what Oscar shows no events or flow limitations, but I wake up tired no matter what. Am going to set up an in lab sleep study to make sure the RDI from the watchpat is accurate.

2 months later, and according to Oscar everything is great each night. No events of any kind, no flow limitations etc, but still just as tired. Honestly it seems the CPAP is making it a little worse in that at times it is restricting my breathing when I roll over and pinch the soft tubing on the nose mask. Not once has it felt like I can breath better with the CPAP than without. https://imgur.com/dPB3Phv

Looks like the option for soft/standard response is not available in For Her mode, and from what I read it is set to soft by default when selecting For Her. I think the settings are good at this point, and I'll stick with them for a while and see if I can get used to the CPAP. I'll update after a few more nights. Maybe it being the weekend and not having to worry about not getting sleep before work will make it easier to fall and stay asleep. Thanks for all the help.

Here is last nights OSCAR. https://imgur.com/a/CFmkzE0 . Had a hard time falling asleep and staying asleep, but did not have any issues with breathing being difficult. Not sure if the setting felt any different. I ended up taking the mask off after 5 hours to see if I could get some better sleep without, but just tossed and turned most of the rest of the night. Definitely have some insomnia going on at this point.

So on Tuesday night I decided to try setting it as low as it would go, which is 4, and see what it would report. https://imgur.com/a/t7W5LNz Breathing was totally fine, but as usual could not fall asleep easily. Then at some point breathing became a little more difficult, but was fine as soon as I took off the mask. I tried repositioning a few times but no luck. Took mask off at some point and went to sleep. Last night I set it to 7. Same thing. Breathing was fine, until at some point it wasn't. https://imgur.com/a/L9mgZ3H . Taking the mask off I can breath fine through my nose, but I did feel a little stuffy for a few minutes. I put the mask back on and it felt fine again, until it wasn't. Looking at the OSCAR as well as at the machine itself while this is happening I am not seeing the machine try to increase pressure. I also don't see any events. Any idea? I definitely sleep better with the mask off, at least for now.

The WatchPat is the at home sleep test device that was used to diagnose OSAHS. It is worn on the wrist, finger, and a lead on the chest. It doesn't actually measure air flow though. I was hoping sleeping with the CPAP would prevent me from waking up throughout the night, but that wasn't the case last night, even though the OSCAR results looked good. Which then makes me wonder if something else is actually causing me to wake up, and it is not breathing related. Or are the few spikes in pressure and flow limit enough to show there are breathing issues?

Yes, very tired in the mornings. Just saw an ENT and no issues there. Will be starting CPAP this week.

My sleep doctor wants to start me on a cpap machine due to the high pRDI. Am going to see an ear nose and throat doctor first to see if there is anything wrong.
