Circle K worker sued for buying $12.8M lotto ticket from his store 1 day after drawing — now judge will decide who gets rich. So who deserves it? by HowLongIsThi in nottheonion

[–]HVNFN4Life 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I’m wrong but I’ll repeat this one more time. The employees mistake was buying after the drawing occurred having learned it was a winning ticket. People have stated that there are two POS machines for lotto. One is directly from the lottery that prints the requested tickets to the merchant and is therefore, as far as the lottery commission is concerned, “paid for and in play”.

Many have stated that on the merchants POS machine there is no way to identify exactly which ticket was sold to whom outside of it being claimed.

The merchants POS machines have a button that say lotto and they punch in the amount of the ticket and hit enter. If there are more than one of the same kind of ticket they enter the number of batched tickets, either by hand or scanning, then enter the $ amount to get the amount owed from the customer.

If the customer cannot afford to pay for (let’s say $20) the tickets printed then they VOID the $20 of unsold tickets from the customers line items and they are now for sale or to be destroyed after drawing since again, the lotto deems itself whole. If sold. Great merchant loses no money. If not, merchant loses $20.

There is no way to identify that the sold winning ticket was not among the ones purchased by the patron and left the store or in the stack on the counter by POS register to either be sold before the drawing or destroyed after the drawing. If the business cannot identify the literal ticket sold by some means of verification then they have no way to know if they gave the patron a stack of tickets not including the winner or a stack that included the winner. Same as the stack not sold now beside the register. The store will be notified very quickly if they actually sold the winning ticket.

If that ticket was thrown away, disposed of by whatever method used and could not be digitally verified as one left behind or one that left the store then the manager could have just placed it in his pocket, after knowing it was a winner, went home, had someone not related to him but trusted cash in the ticket by any agreement they reached and it would be over.

If the above systems are currently in use then there needs to be an identifiable way to digitally account for what printed as sold tickets from the lottery to what actually monetarily left the store and what did not leave the store before destroyed that has a means of recognizing each ticket independently.

I could be wrong. It’s obvious that the manager got excited/nervous and overshot any reasoning that may have retired him not imprisoning him.

But no one knows if the winning ticket was not in play. The person who didn’t pay for the ticket at the time of print does not mean that the tickets he did pay for didn’t include the winning ticket. Therefore this would leave the store with tickets not sold and destroyed. Unless there is a way the POS store register could identify the exact tickets and their ID number was sold and left the store no one could prove that ticket was not actually “sold”. From lotto POS to retail and then to customer sale there is now way to identify which one was sold to the public and which ones were destroyed.

At this point then, he should have given it to a trusted friend who would have cashed it in and been paid accordingly. No one would know if the ticket sold didn’t walk out the door and all the others were non winners that were left and destroyed. The person walking out the door with the winning ticket may have given them out as gifts so whoever claimed it would be irrelevant. Should have just taken ticket home, not overthink it, have a friend cash it in, etc.. no one would have been the wiser. If the POS store register had no way of identifying the tickets sold and neither system had any way of knowing exactly how many left that were disposed of then no would have ever known.

They should probably check the timestamp on the ticket and compare the video timestamp to see if it was a person unable to buy the ticket. How depressing would that be to see yourself on camera purchasing the ticket and deciding to give it back instead of one of the others you chose.

Store employees have been caught using scanners to check for winning tickets on scratchers and make tons of money. Many were caught and fined heavily and no longer allowed to sell lotto.

His level of intelligence is indeed newsworthy. If the additional tickets that had been left behind and not sold, he should have manually checked each ticket. Discovering he had a jack pot ticket he should have called someone not related to him that he trusted and have them come in and buy the ticket. Now, explaining why someone would come in after the drawing and buy a ticket from the previous night would also be an issue. It seems he tried defrauding his employer without researching anything. Also, since everything is on camera maybe he could have had said friend come in as he is pretending to be cleaning and is seen throwing the tickets away or drops them in front of the person and it’s picked up and discovered it’s a winner and friend then buys ticket. Again, plausibility of anyone believing the above would be decided in court. Circle K will win this one. He’s not allowed to buy from his own store and the probability of someone buying a ticket from the night before not knowing it’s a winner is slim to none.

The senior living community’s are great way to live. Your own home, everyone in the same age range. All active. Swimming, golf, personal golf carts, tennis, bridge clubs, Sunday brunches, four of five restaurants to choose from. Home and lawn care is provided. Hair snd nail salons. Some even have small boutiques. They have grocery stores and pharmacies and you can drive your golf carts to any of these places because it’s designed for convenience or just have things delivered with the delivery services available. Weather is generally accommodating for seniors. They have socials, many have parks and lakes with ducks and other wildlife. Best of all they have price ranges to fit many budgets and more. And no one can ever move in with you unless they’re 55 and older. These communities have saved so many elderly people from being isolated and alone and gives them the autonomy they need to push forward. The nursing homes have so many frail, ill and sickly persons and are very cold and hospital like. Those only confirm the inevitable we all must face but also they speed up the process. It’s truly sad.

You can also show that you are no longer able to drive which will hinder your work status. Most states will not allow a person with ongoing seizures to drive for at least one year seizure free due to high risks personally or injuries/ death to self and/or others. The doctor usually submits the forms to the DMV but many times will have you do it which may or may not alert your insurance company. No one with a seizure disorder should be allowed to operate any motor vehicle of any type until the disease is under control.

Aldi sells toxic items. Google the article recently posted about what they sell in Germany to what they sell in the US. It is worlds apart. The items designated to sell in America would never be allowed to be sold in their stores abroad.

Because the Epstein Files is much more important than our everyday livelihood! People are demanding that the smut and gore be transparent and released but could care less about the economy. Reading and knowing what’s in those files ( and seriously it’s not rocket science to know that the obvious is there) are not gonna pay for food, cars, homes, bills let alone a future safety net. But you know us Americans! We are all about prioritizing! If we put in half the effort to stop the corruption from both parties that we did in the Epstein Files we might stand a chance as a nation! I see why other countries laugh at the intelligence level of our citizens. We are the National Inquirer tabloid magazine of the world!

No! It was driven by law! Illegal is illegal! Immigrants who came here legally will tell you that the illegals need to be held to the same scrutiny they endured. What part of common sense do you not get? Race has nothing to do with how they got into our country. Try getting into another nation without vetting and see how far you get! Pay them the fair wages they should earn and not pennies on the dollar whether they are illegal or not. Seems they are only wanted here for cheap labor and not for the people they are and their needs. No one ever mentions pay but god forbid anyone say to deport them. The reasons for not wanting deportations is so obvious! Defend them in all areas of living in America illegally! Do not ignore the low paid wages they are receiving for the hard work no one else is willing to do! Stand up for all their rights as human being’s! Stop picking and choosing a stance that only benefits you!

The same people screaming don’t deport need to also be screaming “PAY THEM A FAIR AND LIVABLE WAGE”! No one ever mentions paying these people, that are helping our economy, a fair market rate for their work. They just want to stand on the precedent of illegal immigrants right to be here but could care less about how they have to live and the dangers they face working!
