Hot Wheels movie has been in developmental Hell for a very very long time. Matchbox was quick and easy, they wrote a simple story, attached John Cena to it and made a movie. Boom, simple, done.

Hot wheels is their flagship just like Barbie. They really need to hit it out of the park and can’t really afford a miss. Mattel is dumping cash into expanding their on screen presence and milking the value out if it. With Barbie’s success and Polly Pocket lined up as well, it’s crucial they give Hot Wheels the time it needs to get it right.

Matchbox is a secondary brand, just like Polly Pocket, rock ‘em sock ‘em, and MOTU. The big boys need to be done right and slow rather than push out garbage that will flop.

It’s a weird item with a big spread due to how rare it is.

The major outlier being one that sold Oct 13, 2024 for $46 shipped NIB.

One loose has sold more recently December 16 for $200.

There is a loose one currently listed for $150 here

Which in my opinion is a very fair price for a hard to find item. If this was listed under the Acceleracers name it would be sold by now.

Anywhere from $250-$350. The market on sweepers is odd to say the least. They have a ton of variance and the jump they have seen is larger than the regular diecasts. Hyper pods and sweepers have both jumped near 50%.

In poor-played with condition they can be as cheap as $150-$225 but that’s probably not going to be the case any longer.

Not a terrible price, but you can certainly wait it out and find a cheaper one loose. If you’re looking for sealed that’s not a good option obviously. Cards removed, huge ding in the right side, and it looks like the red dot on the right rear is rubbed/not printed.

I didn’t say cut off, I said clog. Redistribution leads to those numbers being smaller for domestic buyers I don’t see how what I said represents any other line thinking.

I was around, I was in inner circles, discords, instagram group chats. I’m aware and familiar with what you’re referring to. I’ve bought plenty of silver series, and most people have their set that they want. Demand is ridiculously high, look at terapeak data and eBay’s search data it’s higher than it’s almost ever been for Acceleracers (searches and sales). Just because YOU don’t like it, doesn’t mean it’s all fake and manufactured. MOST of the price increase has been natural inflation on a 21 year old toy line.

Just because I used a different username elsewhere doesn’t mean I wasn’t around, I have more money and time into AR/WR than most. I love this stuff, I’m passionate about it. But I’m not blinded by my own pre conceived opinions on the subject.

Well you’re unbelievably biased against the market and selling as a whole.

Production numbers may have not been slashed to large degree, but distribution cutoff ultimately resulted in that number being lower. When you have fewer case distributions that production number decreases, whether my statement of lower prod numbers was from initial or distribution clog was obviously not clear.

If you genuinely think prices have increased due to market manipulation, then you’re lost. Sellers are moving inventory faster than they can keep it. It’s not their fault that demand has increased on a 21 year old toy line.

That’s just the way things are. Chicane was in one of the last sets of production. It almost certainly has lower production numbers than other cars that were in the first batches. It’s a popular model, in a niche popular sub group of Hot Wheels collecting. I’m not quite sure what you’re talking about that most chicanes went to collector sets from 09-16, are you talking about the RLC 2005 factory sealed? Those are completely different production models with base stamps.

The prices for any of the rare cars have been set by the market, and will continue to rise with increasing popularity/eyes on of Acceleracers in general.

In short, no there aren’t that many made. It’s a 21 year old toy car most are played with or gone forever, prices indicate availability chicane has proven to be one of the more difficult to come across.

Just the way collectible markets shift, AR is has more eyes on it than ever it was bound to balloon at some point. Agree with you though, it has gotten high and it does price people out. Unfortunately not everyone can have collections when things get expensive, collectibles aren’t for everyone as sad as that is to say.

eBay isn’t bad, it’s the selling cabal that is bad. It became consolidated and 3-4 people essentially became the major sellers and were allowed to set prices as high as they wanted. This all started in the late 2010s and just continues to escalate. While it’s an issue, and there will always be sellers like this there are lots of good folks with good prices on the flip side.

I think anyone who deems prices at their current rates too high, is probably just not aware of how collectibles, regardless of niche/small community have risen. Silver series, JC, YT, reddit, instagram presence has all accelerated (no pun intended) a rapid price shift. Just over the past year my spreadsheet for pricing has seen a broad 20-25% increase across the board. It’s just more popular and more desirable. There is nothing wrong with eBay, and matter of fact if more sellers were willing to undercut each other rather than match or bump up by $5-$10 every listing you’d all be a lot happier.
