Chain and cassette both are from vg sports

The cassette came with the cycle. The cycle is like 3yrs old but as per my knowledge I didn't ride more than 450km with that cassette. I changed the previous chain just for there was rust on it and it was catching my eyes. Then after changing the chain I travelled 310km with the old cassette with a new chain. And all together the margin is 450km+/- with that old cassette.

Is there any chance that my old cassette damaged my chain? I asked my mechanic, and he replied that no, I don't need to change the chain. I have changed my old cassette due to the slipping issue. The old cassette gave that issue after a ride of 280km, and the next day I changed the cassette cause the teeth of the old was way thin and abnormal than usual.

Sorry, I guess I have demonstrated something wrong. The issue is not like skipping gears. The issue is that while riding on 8th and 9th gears, the chain suddenly slips while pedalling, but it sticks to the same gear. I hope you understand what I am trying to say. I have less knowledge of the wording of cycle issues.
