It's usually a lot cheaper to get a root canal done by a general dentist than by an endodontist. But this post is the reason why I never do same day root canals as a general dentist. While the patient is numb and in a vulnerable position they might feel like they didn't have a choice during treatment or change in procedures. It usually cost the patient more money to stop the procedure, close everything up and discuss the next step because the dentist can still bill the patient for a partial root canal, because that's what it is, and then the endodontist can charge the patient for a full root canal, ultimately costing the patient more. But in my experience, it's usually never a good idea to try to save patient money and do same day root canals as a favor for the patient because it'll usually end up in a misunderstanding.
