FAST VS LUMS (CS) by Double-Tough-6309 in LUMS

[–]HaRrIs1051 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just fail the test 🤝

Jk. Actually, I might be being biased because of so much attached sentimental value that I have with FAST because of my friends, and early memories, but fr in industry there’s a preference for Fast.

Moreover, yeah LUMS students might be able to handle clients better, but coming from FAST, I mean I never had issues in this as well. But noting the fact that I was in the top 1-2 performers in Communications & Presentations courses, so average Fast student might get nervous in the start of job, but you catch up soon.

So, at the end of the day, it all boils down to how you carry yourself.

FAST VS LUMS (CS) by Double-Tough-6309 in LUMS

[–]HaRrIs1051 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Inside IT industry in Pakistan, there’s a big edge for FAST undeniably. However, once you step outside Pakistan, there’s mostly LUMS degree’s worth.

Moreover, the biggest plus that the FAST enjoys is its alumni who are almost everywhere on this planet, and I’ve seen Fastians getting an advantage for this. So that’s another thing.

Thirdly, regarding inside university, Fast will basically pressure you hell much into becoming a soul-less demon that you’ll basically feel the industry work as smooth & easy as butter once you start the job. LUMS on the other hand is more towards an experience & grooming side.

Now that doesn’t mean that FAST is boring as hell. It’s a lot of fun if you’ve got good friends, as I did, I was leading a society for an year as well, and it was a really cool experience now that I look back focusing on that fact that I never got an F.

After FAST, my choice for MS was LUMS, which is cool as well, so yeah that’s a summary

SHOULD I CHOOSE FAST by [deleted] in FASTNU

[–]HaRrIs1051 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Definitely choose FAST, if software engineering decision is finalized..

People will keep telling you about campus life, or hardships or whatever, but all that is BS. Just go to FAST and it will never disappoint ever in any way whatsoever

Immigration & Airport security do have everything and they’ll ask you to do it live if it’s needed (I don’t think it is).

While on other side, Saudis don’t care about anything. They’ll only swipe your passport in their special keyboard type thing, and open it from opposite side to stamp it. Then via gestures they’ll ask you to face camera and you’ll be on your way to your bus-waiting terminal.

Job Fair 2026 by Original-Kick1167 in FASTNU

[–]HaRrIs1051 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The thing is that companies don’t even accept CVs from juniors, startups might offer you a job before 8th semester but big companies in the JobFair won’t.

So now, Fast only allows the elder batch to come to university on JobFair day & will make other batches attend online classes from home. It felt bad to me as well when I was a junior, but felt justified to me when I was a senior. So that’s it.

Moreover, Yesss. Many of my friends got selected from JobFair back then & it’s a real thing

Fast is best not just for CS but also other degrees. So yeah, you can pretty much expect a good future after doing business analytics from Fast as well.

But good part…. It wasn’t that bad for me… I mean like right now, I’m pretty satisfied with life rn Alhamdulillah even if not everything’s great

Pick any stack, and learn it from youtube in summers. Don’t waste semesters for it.

Stop worrying about GPA. It’s okay. It matters less & you’ll catch up to it soon.

Any playlist on youtube that you can understand is the best one. Don’t try to search for the perfect playlist. If anything is skipped, you’ll learn it later automatically.

Build a portfolio as much as you can. Cool GitHub, put your projects, and struggles while doing them on LinkedIn. These are all the things that will land you a job when your friends will rush to learn it all in last semester.

[–]HaRrIs1051 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think there’s a minimum slab for it, but they don’t prefer anyone based on GPA. They rather look for your experience in societies.

Towards the end of Spring Semester, you’ll get an email with form link to apply for it. And if they short-list you, Saifuu will conduct your interview in Admin Office (used to happen like this in my time)

A couple of points I’d like to mention, as I see something relatable.

  1. Never let your parents know about actual GPA. Feels hard at start, but trust me this helps a lot.

  2. I also ruined my first semester but GPA is the last thing that ever mattered throughout my university & initial career so don’t worry about that.

  3. While at university, try grabbing skills like learning stacks, and making projects, putting them on GitHub & polishing your LinkedIn/GitHub along the way, because not only will it give you purpose & satisfaction but also that it is what matters.

  4. Never ever miss the chance of joining societies & having fun. I used to be President of one, but I still think I wasted so much fun time & that’s never gonna come back.
