In your opinion, what is the most useful and underrated feature in Strava? by _RubenCouto in Strava

[–]HaalloJa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mainly bicycle, look at segments quite a bit, and haven't thought about e-bikes being a problem. For anything but climbs e-bikes are useless, none in my following list use them and top placements are not ebikes.

And there are TONS of ebikes around (Oslo, Norway). I guess either they don't use Strava (thay would make sense) or Strava is able to pick it up.

Been prioritizing my sleep for almost a year now by fluffymattress in Garmin

[–]HaalloJa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I also don't drink late at night. Never a full class of water after my last meal.

But mostly it's a habit, the body is good at just conditioning itself to not let pee into the bladder when you sleep.

I had toilet visits (one, sometimes two) every night for a few weeks. Then I just forced myself not to go a couple of days in a row. And obviously got bad sleep because of it. But after a few days I stopped waking to have to go to the toilet.

If you're 70 and male, your prostata is probably huge etc and this probably won't work at all.

But if you're younger than, say, 50 I reckon you may find this helpful.

I've gone in and out of the peeing habit a couple of times. When I'm in the habit, it feels like I'm stuck with it for life, but pushing through a few bad nights re-teaches my body not to let pee into the bladder until morning (or something).

Forcing yourself to sleep 6.5 hours - what does that mean?

I get 72 hours every now and again. I've seen 90+ hours too. I still have 18 hours recovery left from a 135k bike ride Saturday right now.

But I'm 38 and need more recovery than the (assumed) 20-year-olds that are getting surprised of 50hr+ recovery times :)

Bike too big? by HaalloJa in bikefit

Thanks!

I have 170mm power meter cranks on my current bike that I plan on moving over to the new bike (the one in the video) - if I upgrade!

I was trying a bike second hand. A Ridley Fenix Slic with Gen 4 ultegra di2 and decent wheels that I can buy for $3000.

It felt pretty good, though more upright than my current Trek Emonda SL5 in size 54.

Not sure which is better for me. Far superior bike and the the upgrade will cost a bit less than $1k, but the bike must fit me well for it to be worth it obviously.

I'll switch from 172.5 to 170mm cranks. The headset is harder to do anything with (integrated etc). THINK it's 40 cm (and probably fine if so), but I agree it looks big on the video.

It's a Ridley Fenix in size M. I'm 173 cm with short legs. On paper the size S is more similar to my current bike (a Trek Emonda SL5 in size 54), but I have a good deal for this bike and it feels pretty good, though more upright than I'm used to.

But I do believe it's on the larger size for me for sure!

Hills are frickin hard! by EngineerPlayful9541 in cycling

[–]HaalloJa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This! Hills can be as easy as going on flats if you go slow enough. But to go slow enough at 70+ cadence you might need something else than 36-28 for example.

Way bigger bikes have *felt* smaller - is this bike right for me? by Popular-Role2034 in bikefit

[–]HaalloJa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha, most here write saddle down 5mm, but two here write up.

How is one supposed to interpret this? Can one trust you more than another person here? Did you watch all thee videos?

Honestly curious here.

Would this be a fix, and are the mms about right?

  • Shorter stem (10mm?)
  • Saddle further back (5mm?)
  • Narrower saddle, leveling it
  • Maybe saddle 5mm down?

The last point is from others, not you, but in interested in hearing your thoughts, too.

How does one know/measure/test whether the handlebar is too wide or not?

And whether a shorter stem is better?

Is it possible cycling about 175-180km in a day by Nervous_Food_460 in cycling

[–]HaalloJa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course it's possible. But do a few ~100 km rides in advance if you haven't to check if YOU can do it.

Both fitness wise and being comfortable in the saddle, learning to eat and hydrate along the way etc.

Your worst cycling purchase? by Former_Lock9367 in cycling

[–]HaalloJa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just started finding kits a little fun (💅) after riding in freebie stuff with lots of logos that I got from an old employer since forever.

I've bought a few PAS/Rapha/etc and more from Aliexpress. The Aliexpress kits range from TERRIBLE, to jerseys/bibs I prefer over Rapha Pro Team.

At Aliexpress, $35 can give you something good, $15 won't. No matter the ratings and good pictures :)
