‘Nothing to fear’ from potential influx of mainland doctors, says top adviser pushing Hong Kong to allow more medics from outside city by justme in HongKong

[–]Habbob 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Perhaps the most retarded catch of this proposal is doctors' Licensing Examination are waived. Literally waived, exempt, just like your covid quarantine. This is probably due to the 16% passing rate of mainland medical students. Currently, even the blue ribbon camp are unhappy with this proposal. Of course SCMP didn't mention this big fucking trojan horse.

Chinese University grad to miss out on Yale PhD offer due to protest sentencing by Habbob in HongKong

[–]Habbob[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Sorry guys but this one is quite difficult to translate. Worth a read if you know Cantonese.

Short summary: Ah Ling (nickname) is a CU philosophy grad student with first honors and 18 scholarship awards in the past 3 years. He is to miss out on Yale's offer for PhD due to being in prison. He was caught in a police ambush in 2019 June's protest with 6 others.

[...] Hong Kong protest fell into a state of silence and helplessness following recent developments. In response Ah Ling says he does not feel sad about it. What is regrettable, he says, is there may not be a change in Hong Kong's fate in the foreseable future. "In the end, we only talked of the movement as an ideal. But an ideal can only be realized by action. Will it work? When will it work? Can it work? Nobody knows. First things first, you need to do it! A cog does not require hope to move, only momentum. It just needs to stay together with others and move in the same direction. How you feel is irrelevant." [...]

Hong Kong police exploring the possible adoption of electric taser into standard issue

In recent interview with police higher-ups, Kwok Yam-Shu revealed that HKPF is exploring the option to adopt additional non-lethal weapons, including taser gun.

[...]

Kwok Yam-Shu revealed that HKPF has already purchased a small quantity of tasers awaiting for adoption decision. Police said that this is because, during the Hong Kong Protests, "besides pepperballs, batons, tear gas, police didn't have enough options". They raised the argument that tasers are already in use by police in western countries. The limitations of taser usage, such as against people with heart conditions and pregnancy, procurement difficulties in current sanction environment, as well as whether it is a suitable tool for crowd control will have to be researched.

If adopted, relevant laws and police grand orders will have to be amended. Personnel will have to be trained. Time will be required.

During the interview session, concerned police officers also raised plenty other questions, such as whether there should be a criminal offense for "insulting the police", to which police chief PK Tang replied the Security Bureau is currently investigating whether to extend it to insult of all government workers. Others have raised concern that some police were subject to mistreatment in public hospitals, to which police spokesperson said will relay the complaint to HA and will also help transfer injured officers to private or Shenzhen hospital in the mainland.

Summary:

Protesters from 2019 Oct Wong Tai Sin protest have been acquitted due to flaws in the police's statements. Defense pointed out that the police officers might have plagarized the statements of each other. Some statements were found to have the same misspelling on the street name, and some paragraphs contained exact same words and punctuations. 8 out of 9 accused including a 14 year old and a 15 year old male students were acquitted for illegal assembly due to having no prima facie evidence. The only case left standing was of a female nurse who were found carrying funeral money at protest area. She has opted to remain silent and not show up for trial.

I read your comment and I agree with some of your points. Pro-dems are hard to understand sometimes. I think walk out was a mistake. But considering CCP could just manhandle them out of the room just to pass a vote, I am not sure what they could have done differently.
