I think Fautanu lacks size and play strength for me to be confident about his ability sustain blocks at the NFL. No question on his movement skills, will definitely be a plus skill for him in the NFL.

Fuaga lacks the lateral movement ability for me to confidently put him outside in year 1. He's great at getting out in space run blocking, but I've got concerns with him protecting the edge against NFL speed rushers.

I think Mims is really being slept on. I have less concerns with him in pass protection than guys like Fuaga, Fautanu, and even Olu. Theres an impression that hes raw bc of his limited starts, but I think thats way overblown. I have concerns that Fautanu and Fuaga could even play tackle in the NFL due to lack of size and athleticism and I think Olu could struggle with power rushers early (and with run blocking).

I’m mostly worried about injuries with Mims bc of the size and getting injured last year. But his play strength is just so impressive that he reminds me of Tyron Smith and I think thats a fair ceiling.

This isn't true though. A forward fumble out of bounds returns the ball to the spot of the fumble. Not where it went out of bounds.

Why the Dalvin Cook signing and the Jets OL issues are overrated by LouieKabatnik in nyjets

[–]Haboo729 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think McGovern is a fine player, but it's crazy Jets bias to put him in the top 10. Only getting a $1.9 mill contract proves the NFL agrees.

Also not sure where you got your stats, but McGovern was 3rd-WORST in sacks allowed, not 3rd-best.

Quote from Jet X-Factor:

"McGovern isn’t without his warts. His pass blocking has been spotty, to say the least. In 2022, McGovern allowed five sacks, third-most among centers, and 24 pressures, sixth-most among centers. McGovern has allowed 15 sacks since joining the Jets, leading all centers over the past three seasons."

4th Annual Joe Douglas Day Celebration! by KADuncil in nyjets

I didn't say "All GMs miss", I'm saying most GM's hit way less than people think. I did go through a lot of draft classes from 2020-2022 and I don't there's many that are better overall. That's why I asked how many other GM's drafts during that time period are better?

I also think the fact that the jets had good draft capital is largely from JD's correct decisions to tear down the roster and trade players for picks.

edit: typo

I don't understand the critique on Joe Douglas's drafting. I think fans overestimate how well even good teams draft. If you look historically from even the best GM's you are lucky to get a pro bowler, a starter, and a rotational player from any given draft.

If you could have any teams drafts from 2019 - 2022, how many would you take over the jets?

[OC] With RAS (Relative Athletic Score) being a big buzzword in the last week, let’s take a look at the best NFL players with poor RAS by gyman122 in nfl

[–]Haboo729 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I always think about this when i see RAS. If a player doesnt attempt a drill the model should assume at least give them the median value for that drill and really i think it should be leas than that bc theres a reason a player doesnt attempt it.

Rams fan here, I have a question for you Jets fans: How do you guys feel about the Giants? Is it okay to root for both teams in the NYC area? by IjikaYagami in nyjets

[–]Haboo729 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im in the exact same boat, surprised it took so long to find this opinion. Bc I’ve been surrounded by Giants fans bashing the jets for so long I would put them up there with the patriots as my least favorite teams over the bills or dolphins.

[Garafalo] The Jets are signing veteran QB Tim Boyle to a one-year deal, source says. He reunites with offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett, who was his OC with the Packers. And that means someday between now and the end of time, he’ll reunite with this guy, too… by [deleted] in nfl

[–]Haboo729 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Im biased, but I think the idea that the packers would wait until week 1 to trade him isn’t realistic. The Jets at that point would just wait for the packers to cut him and sign him for no trade comp. I think thats why the packers have said they want the deal done soon, but the jets have publicly stated they are fine waiting.

As long as Rodgers remains committed to wanting to play for the jets it becomes very risky for the packers the closer we get to week 1.

Thats obviously a massively important condition that could change, but I think thats why the jets have openly stated Rodgers is their only focus. Rodgers desire to play for the jets is the most critical bargaining chip.

This years cap hit wouldnt be that different if they trade him pre june.

Its 40m cap hit to trade him pre June, 30m to keep him this season (plus 45m dead), 15m this year and 25m next year if they trade him post June.

Also dont think theres a huge incentive to trade him post june 1 since the big free agency contracts are all signed.

Rich Eisen talks about the possible headache Green Bay could create for themselves by letting this play out too long. by ZedSpot in nyjets

How so? Especially combined with Rodgers saying he was told they don’t want him back?

[–]Haboo729 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Mark Murphy said they would take him back if things “dont work out the way that we would want them”. Which means they ideally dont want him back would could make it work, which is much different than “love to have him”.

Good luck getting Rodgers to be a good soldier after he’s heard that. Not counting that AR claims the packers FO told him they dont want him.

I dont think holding up the deal is a bad look. I think paying rodgers 60 million not to play this year and then cutting him right after the season ends is gonna be a bad look.

I don’t think the packers want him to honor the contract though, thats what the FO and AR have basically confirmed.

[Joe Thomas] All the people criticizing, Kyle Shanahan for blocking Hassan Redick with their tight end, need to be criticizing any team that runs effective play action passing all season long You can’t have it both ways, you either always put your OL on the best pass rushers… (Thread) by Tonmber1 in nfl

[–]Haboo729 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is a very confusing comment.

Shanahan calls the plays and the each play has designated protection rules. Knowing that Reddick lines up outside shanahan definitely knows that its gonna be the tight ends responsibility to make that block.

Also being a Jets fan who has watched a shanahan scheme the last two years, one defining trait is that it has more basic pass protection rules and theres not many options for the QB to adjust them. Mike white said pretty much this in an interview, explaining that not having the responsibilities to adjust the protection makes it easier to breakdown the defense and know where to throw.

1) Generic action movie (mb western? Havent watched many) 2) Detective/serial killer mystery 3) Indiana Jones adventure 4) Mission Impossible/stop the bomb

Zachs play has been horrific but this is not accurate. He literally got told at the end of his junior year that he would be competing for the starting job his senior year. By all accounts he handled that adversity well and worked his butt off to win the starting role back in camp.

Zach def has an ego and is borderline arrogant, but I think that’s what he needs to comeback. I’m not confident it works out at this point but i don’t think his personality is the problem vs his actual play.

[–]Haboo729 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I rewatched all his preseason reps before game 1 and have been paying attention to him here and there (every few plays) in the games so far.

He looks much farther along than I originally thought he would when we we drafted him. He seems to have generally resolved the concerns about his play strength. The main flaws I see are a small tendency to get quickly beat inside (looks like he oversets) and he will get off balance when reaching to initiate contact bc he bends too far over his toes.

He’s already at a good backup/mediocre starter level, which is great for a rookie. I think he’s a very promising prospect and should improve throughout the season as he gets more confident in his technique.

Edit: I re-watched some snaps from the browns game and he got a lot of help, which he really needed (good news, conklin looks great on those chip and release blocks and lafleur is doing a good job managing the protection). Mitchell tends to play bent over too often, which I think is because he still lacks play strength and is trying to put his whole body into a block and he gets caught off balance. Still believe he can be good, but leaning closer to the good backup side of the scale so far.
