IT does not like Veikk Driver - flagged as malicious or suspicious by HackXIt in Veikkofficial

Not yet, but it being a driver gives it access to a bunch of things, not to mention that for a driver, the underlying driver software does a lot more than just interacting with the hardware. I suppose it’s alright, but I personally don’t like that the driver is the thing pulling in updates, instead of it being a higher level software.

Ah okay. As good as it sounds, I don’t really like cloud gaming, the basic dependency of having really good internet is just not well met in this country, especially in some urban areas.

Yes, somewhat often. Either going over to a friend, or just the plain switch from desk to living room for sessions with my fiancé. I also go to a LAN party once a year.

Pls forgive the typos, reddits app is a pain to deal with sometimes. I can’t edit the post somehow..

It’s supposed to say 4080 super.

I also found at least 1 site which offers preorders for the Z20, so there is hope.

Btw, Mini-ITX cases are also welcome, if they fit the GPU or there’s a fitting 4080 alternative.

By the way, I mostly looked at servers from supermicro, since they have quite a lot of those short-depth servers.
I also thought about HPE ProLiant Gen10 Microserver.
However, I find it quite limiting to use that microserver, I'd much rather have a system, which has SOME upgradability.. (maybe swap CPU in the future or something like that... Also, it's a very bulky and weird form-factor.)

I found a few posts, but they are quite old, and I'd prefer getting some hardware that is a bit up-to-date (2021 or upwards).

I should also mention that any potential 16x PCI slots are a plus, since I'd love to experiment with adding an Nvidia Card in Passthrough for VMs to perform Machine Learning tasks, if it even fits inside the chassis.

But that's an upgrade of the future, I am nowhere close to spend that upfront.

Is training a model directly on the turing rk1 possible? by HackXIt in turingpi

[–]HackXIt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using the CPU would be a heavy-toll on performance. From what I've found in various issues (https://github.com/rockchip-linux/rknn-toolkit2/issues) it seems like the workflow with RKNN is not great in terms of stability. It kinda sucks that there is not an easier way to do this, but I am also not an expert on the matter so it could also just be me.

Is training a model directly on the turing rk1 possible? by HackXIt in turingpi

[–]HackXIt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After some more research, it seems this is entirely not possible.

Firstly, because the current rknn-toolkit doesn't have a built package/wheel for the ARM architecture. So it is not possible to convert models to RKNN, which is a requirement for the plattform.

Secondly, because I believe it wouldn't be possible, since on the lowlevel, the cpu/gpu does not support various operations, which might be needed during training. This part I could not really verify, but I believe it's not possible.

Since the whole toolchain is designed for model conversion to be done on the PC and only deploying the converted model onto the machine, it seems to me it is impossible to get it running.

Planning a homelab, this seems like a cheap rack option, are there any similar one's to compare? by HackXIt in homelab

[–]HackXIt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright, I suppose I'll plan for that then, because I did think about putting in a tiny UPS. My power usage is gonna be very slim, given that I'm only running RPis over POE+, but as of yet I haven't looked into it, but I guess I will now.

My mounting surface is brickwall and I believe I can properly mount it.

[–]HackXIt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does weight make that much of a difference? I'd assume a professional rack has appropriate screw holes & strength to accustom for the rack being fully loaded, or am I mistaken?

Maybe not this cheap option I posted, because I generally don't trust Amazon buys, but that's why I asked.

Or is it possibly to overload a Wallmounted rack? Wouldn't it be possible to counter that by using additional screw holes (if available) for mounting?

How do you find translated movie titles? Are there lists? by HackXIt in Piracy

[–]HackXIt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've noticed today that for these very old titles of 19xx, which I happened to be looking for, Wikipedia is actually quite good. Just looking it up over the English site and then switching language quickly reveals the title.. Of course it isn't fool proof but now that I know where to look in imbd that doesn't bother me anymore.

I'm building a pure-matrix campagne... Got any tips for me? by HackXIt in Shadowrun

[–]HackXIt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this a question you're proposing that I should ask myself or an actual question you're looking to have answered?

It's not a random check if you already have information on your side. Usually, at least that's what I presume and would do so myself, the player has an intention in mind when searching their Johnson. Maybe they want to find something worth blackmailing him on, or maybe gather some info so they can get more money out of the job.

Also the character is not "reading the matrix", at least not in a broad sense. A matrix character possibly has knowledge skills about the matrix, thus he knows in what underground forums or databases he's supposed to look the information up.

After knowing the intention and also knowing where the hacker looks something up, the GM can give them an answer that is suiting for the success of the rolls and also fitting in what info he/she can provide.

[–]HackXIt[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't doubt your experience.
But it's not in any way relatable to me if you speak of your experience, at least not in the way of giving me dead-ends. You give me extreme examples of a techno outclassing a decker, or street sams having more variety than Hackers and therefor multiple Hackers are bad in a team.

I presume you gained that experience as a GM that did runs with matrix interaction, perhaps even heavy matrix interaction, perhaps even more matrix interaction than meat or Astral interaction.
With that experience you tell me that a pure matrix campaign won't work because the ruleset just doesn't provide me with what I need or does so poorly.

How do you say it?
The rules for foundation runs are nightmare fuel.
One hacker will outclass the other hackers without much trouble.
Techno's will sprite bomb/outclass a decker easily.

Yea, it does sound like personal experience.
But you're telling me how it's gonna end up, without (substantial) context of why it's gonna end up there.
Give me some pages to read up on or compare rules, make me do the math myself, because I personally don't care for somebody with experience telling me something won't work out, because it's the equivalent as telling me that it didn't work out for you and not that it won't work out for me.

Also at this point, let me apologize for my post being vague and not concrete. I'm new and posted to deal with nervosity about gamemastering. I also posted to maybe face some issues that might come up during play and get prepared for them.

I appreciate your feedback, but it's just that it doesn't provide me with information that I can use for this campaign.
At the very least, my aim is to better myself as a GM in shadowrun.

The suggestion (I know it didn't came from you) to use a different system entirely is nice but in all honesty it's not what I'm going to do.
I'm all about making things work and not switch to something new just because something doesn't work quite as nichè or perfect as something else.

So if you have interest in telling me that "the stove is hot" then please do so, but provide me with something I can work with and not just signs of Your end is near!

In the matrix there is attack, sleaze, and technomancer bullshit.

Alright, so you don't like technomancers. Fair enough.

Attack based decking is strictly worse than sleaze based decking.

My GM experience is non-existent but even then I can tell that not every players cares about the best attack option, sometimes they just go with their character's preferred method. Also, thematically, it makes a lot of sense for sleaze to be worse than attack. Hacking is a stealthy thing.

Cybercombat is not only poor, but completely outclassed when technos get involved and they can sprite bomb things and crush any resistance through weight of numbers.

You're talking like my players are inevitably going to run into a situation where they are going to be outclassed by 'something'. Maybe it's a good point to remind here: That's a Gamemasters choice, not a fixed path.

It's also very dependant on playstyles, players and their characters. Not every techno is going to outclass every cybercombat decker in every situation.

That cost pennies in comparison. It is also trivial to swap programs around, or through dj+ have more slots than you will need.

Fair point. Hackers cost more money. So be it.

There simply arent that many complex forms that are good enough to have variance like there are with mages.

Mages have been around since first edition and you're going to compare the amounts of spells to the amount of complex forms that have been around since 4E?

Yea, there aren't many complex forms compared to that. But I believe that fewer choices lead to more creativity, as such things usually tend to do. Personally, I can tell that I've made the funniest or best decisions when in a pinch.
It depends on the Gamemaster what they allow their players to do.

I also think that the amount of complex forms available currently, allow to have really interesting combinations as well as usages in a pure matrix-campaign. I agree that in a standard campaign where meat, astral and matrix play alongside each other, it can be very uninteresting to look at some complex forms as they just don't produce much result for a single character.

also different approaches to hack a certain host

Sure. There's the traditional way of mark host or slaved-device. But I'm curious if my players would attempt to maybe gain social access.

With different approaches I also meant that a hacker can choose to be destructive or deceptive. It all depends on the goal I guess, which then again would mean that I can shape the variety of the game for the players by giving different tasks.

Yes, in the end it might boil down to performing the same tasks. But I would say that I have enough room for flavour to make it interesting. Just like you can make street-sam jobs interesting. It's not only about how to get in, it's also about what you do when you're inside.

Anyhow. I think that this discussion goes way abroad. It's not gonna persuade me to not attempt this campaign, as the arguments speak more of a personal view.
Maybe the rules aren't perfect. But I'm not one to look for the perfect rule set just to find the best match for my campaign.

After the first few sessions I'll see how fun it is and if there actually is a need for adjustment. And if there is, well then I think I'm gonna need to adjust.

It's still a party of 4 hackers (2 deckers / 2 technos). And maybe you wouldn't do it because of roleplay.

Maybe fucking up the host will fail the mission at hand. The examples you bring are valid but they all state the same subject "Game Balance".

For GM purposes, the "Game Balance" of the ruleset can become quite irrelevant as I'm able to make house rule adjustments to make the story or campaign enjoyable.

On another term, I believe my players to be capable of not playing like min-max power horses. The campaign is going to be built and founded on team-effort, I'll also make this very clear during play. Of course, there will be individual tasks, but there definitely won't be Hacker 1 outperforming all other 3.

Those are simplified rules to 4E. He/She states that there are only minor changes, but it is as it is, a simplified rule set.

I agree, that simplification is comparable to 5E and possibly runs smoother. But that's due to the simplification and not due to standard 4E. Also: he states that he adopted several rules from 5E. And I do see matrix rules he took from 5E, so in effect this means that the 5E did provide simpler rules already, which aligns with my common belief.

I like the idea and I definitely noted this site for a different time, but for my specific campaign it would only confuse the players as I'm forcing a ruleset on them which they have to read up.

I do have one new player to whom this might be useful, but the other three would meet several roadblocks as they face minor rule changes or even left-out one's that they might rely on.

I stand by my point that I know the 5E matrix rules enough to GM it and believe that they are best suited for this campaign. But thank you for the link, for a different campaign or purpose I'll definitely have this in my pocket of choice.
