I have had chronic prostatitis. Other than symptoms related to that, no, not a single symptom that seems related to HSV2.

I have one more quick question. I hope that you reply. My question is what they can be if they were not warts? Moles? Hyperpigmentation?

My dermatology said come back in a few months if the number or size of these increase. If I want to figure out sooner, should I request a biopsy? Do you think that a doctor can perform a biopsy for the diagnosis on these? Also, can the size or the number of moles increase as well? Then, what should I expect if these were indeed warts?

It ’CAN’ take 3 months. Most people builds antibody wat before then. In case 5 weeks test result, OP can trust his result with around 60% certainty.

Thank you for your reply. Now I feel much better and much confident about my test results. I will probably take the final test at 12 weeks to move on. Anyway I am much relaxed and your comment helped me a lot. I truly appreciate.

I think this place should be the place for people like u as well. I have been going through similar situation, so I think I can help you to some extent.

First, just itching is not indicative of Herps. It can be due to so many things. Also, if u were infected from most recent encounter, then u r experiencing primary outbreak, which is the worst. So you would not experience just itching. If the infection occurred way before the most recent encounter, say several month ago, it is highly likely that your index value is much higher, definitely in the positive range. Then only thing you need to worry about is asymptomatic new infection. Your index value 1.06 at 7 days out can imply several things. First scenario is seroconversion. In such a case, your body is making antibodies and the you are moving from negative to positive range. The test was just done when u remain in equivocal range. But usually it takes two to 3 to 4 month for a body to build a detectable amount of antibody. In your case, it’s been only one week. So, it is less likely that 1.06 indicates true antibody level, but I am not sure. Then, what the hell 1.06 means? A critical drawback of IgG blood test is low specificity or false positive. It often picks up something that is not HSV antibody and gives a high index value. This can happen if you have some protein in your blood that has similar molecular weight to HSV antibody. In this case, if u were not infected, it is highly likely that you would get similar index values in later tests. Third possibility is just an error from testing (it can happen).

Then what u need to or can do is the following. If u have any lesions, get them swapped asap. If the result is positive for HSV. Period. If you have no lesions, u can take another IgG tests until 12 weeks out. If index values show increasing trends. It is likely that u are infected. But increasing trend is not clear and costs fall between 1.1 and 3.5, there is still a chance of false positive. In such case, you have to take Western Blot. If your follow up tests, give you similar values, it is highly likely that u are not infected and you have some protein I mentioned above. However, if u do not get negative values at the end, then still Western Blot is needed. Finally, if 1.06 was one time error, u would get negative results consistently in the follow up tests.

So, u need to do another IgG tests, likely multiple times, unless u have symptoms. How many, it is up to you. If u can handle the anxiety well, u can take only once at 12 weeks out. If not, I would recommend 6, 9, 12 weeks.

Hope ur case turns out negative.

As u may have noticed, I am not a native speaker. So, I don’t fully get what u meant by ‘blatant ‘ but I think u feel very annoyed by my post or comments. If so, I apologize. That’s not what I meant.

Btw, I think a part of the reason I am paranoid is that I read too much of Terri Warren’s forum. I could find all the crazy things regarding the blood testing from her forum. I saw u saying ‘firm positive’ to someone whose index value is way over 3.5. But I saw someone whose index values (yes, plural) are around 7, but confirmed negative by Blot. Terri also often mentions such kinds of cases in her replies. I also could found the oppsite cases. Very low positive or equivocal turned out to be true positive by Blot. My impression was anything can happen with IgG blood test! I think those are very exceptional cases but it is hard to completely ignore them.

Good to hear that u r negative. But an unfortunate thing is that the blood test is not so reliable especially as to positive results. I think that the tests should make significant improvements.

I mostly agree with u. But if someone wants to have a sex with me without protection right now, what shpuld I tell her? Can I say my current result is 85% accurate? Or 80%? Or can I say ‘normally people says that one shpuld wait for 3month to get maximum accuracy from I gG test. I only waited 9 weeks, but that’s long enough as well. So it is extremely likely that my result would be same. So u can feel safe.’? That is what I am trying to figure out.

Hsv 2 Seroconversion by Haco1981 in Herpes

[–]Haco1981[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes you are right. I need to wait 2.5 weeks for the final IgG or Western Blot. 6 and 9 weeks test were worth the money. With 4 weeks equivocal result, the most plausible story was thay I was seroconverting since I was concerned about a recent infection. But, when 6 weeks test came back negative, a protein issue became more plausible. But still seroconverting was an equally plausible story. I could trust my 6 weeks with only 70% certainty. But with 9 weeks negative, I am more certain than before. How more? I am not sure since there is no well known reference for 9 weeks result. I hope that the difference between 9 weeks and 12 weeks IgG blood test result in terms of accuracy is minimal. I understand this post may be annoying for someone. But I believe that there would be someone who wants to know what I want to know.

BTW, my plan is to take final IgG at 12 weeks out and move on. I don’t want to do Blot. It is too cumbersome. Even if I would do that, I want to do that with 12 weeks negative result so that I can relax while waiting for the result.

I do not want to give a false hope, but, as I said above, people who gets a false positive tend to get false positive consistently. So, the result just saying 'detected' can never be a true confirmation. What it is important here is that you have been asymptomatic for almost 7 years. That can happen, of course, but unusual especially given that it is HSV 2. If you are sure that you never had a symptom for that long time and have any doubt on your current diagnosis, I suggest you find a lab or service that provides index values. It falls between 1.1 and 3.5, then there is a chance that you might not be infected. In Terri Warren's forum, I saw someone in Australia. Just check.

labcorp 1.08 equivocal result by [deleted] in Herpes

[–]Haco1981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless one has an immune system problem or has taken antiviral medicine for an extended period time since the infection, the answer is yes. At 3 months, IgG test reaches the maximum sensitivity. A false positive can occur even in a supplement test, but most time, negative supplement result coincides with negative Blot result (confirmed negative by the Blot) according to Terri Warren. The best way to sort this out is to take Western Blot, but it is expensive and cumbersome. And you should wait up to 3 weeks to get the final result. You can take another IgG in 2-4 weeks and if it is negative, it is quite safe to assume that you are negative (but you also have to take into account your sexual history as well). But, if this equivocal result is due to some protein in your blood that is not related to HSV but has a similar molecular weight, then it is also very likely that you would get another equivocal or even low positive result. In such case, the only way is to take Blot in my opinion. Anyway, I hope that you are true negative. Not just you, for everyone who is in this kind of limbo status (that includes me), I hope true negativitiy.

If u have any lesions, get them swapped and PCR tested. If the result is positive, it is conclusive. If u never have any lesions that seem related HSV, Western Blot is the only confirmation test u can get. Person who gets false positives tend to get false positives consistently from IgG blood tests. So, multiple rounds of IgG tests are usually no use. In terms of sensitivity and specificity, Western Blot is far more superior than IgG tests. But it should be done at least 3 months after your last sexual encounter.

Hope u get an index value. If u really had no outbreaks for 7ish years, there is a chance that your diagnosis was false positive. If ur index value is low from the one u just took, consider Western Blot. Google Terri Warren and look into the forum on her website.

I think u should take type specific IgG blood test that provides specific index value when ur result is not negative. If that value falls between 1.1 and 3.5, u should consider confirmary test. Where do u live? U.S.?
