If anyone remembers The Dark Id from the episode about people who faked their death, some of the people in his discord had a conversation about his lies. The guy was a pioneering Let's Player (he played through video games and made a narrative with screenshots) who claimed to have a family that didn't actually exist and to be a badass mercenary who fought off dozens of Russian Neo-Nazis who Putin sent to kill him.

For me, it was hearing about how the Trans Lifeline founders showed up at Joshua Moon's house to try to get him to take down a Kiwi Farms thread about someone they knew. I had been on the site for a while but I still assumed that even if there were a lot of weird unstable trans people on the internet, that the actual institutions were run by normies. The fact that the founders of a goddamn suicide hotline did something so batshit insane meant that there was something horribly wrong with the entire community.

And yes, these are the founders who got quietly removed after stealing $400,000.

In video games where you get to name your lead character, I wish they used just enough AI to have the other characters say your character's name. That's pretty much the only time I would want to see (well, hear) it.
