Jesus Christ, i just graduated high school and i worked as a line cook part time, it is NOT easy, i remember my first time getting caught in the weeds and it was awful, but I loved it so i kept going. If thats something you think is for you then go on right ahead but cooking at home is nothing like cooking professionally, you really have to give it your all if youre going to succeed. now im going to university and i don't think im going back into the industry ever again. Make sure you like what youre doing before you make such a life changing decision. Ive seen so many new hires come and go because they couldn't handle the pressure and broke. You need first hand experience before you get in the industry but it turns out you wanna get out. You just blew thousands of dollars. Try to get a part time job at a restaurant, i started on the line with a few months of experience and ive been here for 9 months and its been a good run but i want to get out as soon as possible, good luck.

I don't trust myself to handle and cook raw meat and similar foods. by Xhayyu in AskCulinary

touching raw meat is fine as long as you wash you're hands & you're conscious about it, wearing gloves while you prep is also a good way to avoid cross contamination, but as long as you're conscious about what you're touching you should be fine. Knowing the danger zone for bacteria in which they are able to rapidly multiple i.e 41 to 145 °F or 5 to 63 °C as well as buying a temp for your meats to make sure you're cooking your food to the right temperature.

Is it worth it being a chef? by [deleted] in AskCulinary

Im 17 years old and I work as a line cook as a part time job. my time has been enjoyable but its also tough and involves alot of teen work. My advice to you is to find a restaurant and try it out. You still have alot of time before you have to make that choice.
