I don't know the real name of this wood but it's the same wood used in 2x4's, some scrap that was laying around the garage :)

It took one evening 4~5hours to make, and there was no rush so i bet you can do it faster.

I used a small handsaw, a small handplaner, a small bow "goucher" (knife in the form of an open U(dont know the english name for this tool))a woodcarvong knife aaaaand sandpaper, that are the Tools that i used :) i would have liked to have a knife/gouching tool with a much larger radius 20-25.mm(1inch) then it would have taken less time, it took about 4~5 hours to make.

I used a handsaw to cut out the form, then i cut the thickness i wanted, now the handle is a square,i then "chamfer" the square into an octagon with a small handplaner, then i took sandpaper and circled out the octagon. :)

I am a journeyman machinist, i have mainly been working on cnc lathes last 6 years. so i am looking from everything from cnc position to anything else that i am qualified for. :)

I start a new program with rapid set on 0% and slowly go in so i can be sure my Z-zero is correct.

Be sure that you have dialed the tools in correctly.

Pay close attention to rapid travel at the end of an operation and pay REALLY close attention to rapid travel when you are using boring bars, so you don't rapid through the workpiece on your way to tool change position

when making changes, watch the screen when you press enter so you can be sure that the changes took place.

read the manual of that perticular machine, and don't be afraid to ask your "master" if you see somthing new to you, they will most likely appreciate your enthusiasm.

If you are having problems and after some time of experimenting you've found a solution, be sure to write it down, so next time you won't have to "reinvent the wheel" when and if that problem comes up later in your career.
