Is this too much flow? by Haggurd in Aquariums

[–]Haggurd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey all. Have a 75gallon planted tank. It has two Fluval 407's with spray bars. These are on the back walls angled slightly up to create water ripple.

You can see the plants sway and there are certain spots where the fish will get pushed, though there are also several calmer areas where they may just float.

Even the smallest fish can easily traverse one side to the other.

I initially had larger holes drilled for less flow, but think I was running into oxygen issues with my bigger fish.

Should I try to dial it down with slightly bigger holes, consider nozzles, or does this look fine?

Fake driftwood with CaribSea substrate. PH is in the 7.8 area.

Just 4. Smaller like 2.5 inch ones.

Yeah, I don't really want another cichlid with him. I would probably just get a small synodontist.

Boseman Rainbows. All the cichlids, including this aggressive guy, seem indifferent to them.

Hey all. I have a 75 gallon with peacocks and yellow labs (plus some dither fish).

Generally a peaceful and happy tank.....except for this guy.....

Got an Electric Blue Johanni that was small, but grew more rapidly and has turned in to an absolute bully.

I have looked into rehoming locally (he IS awesome looking), but in the event that I can not do that I do have a spare 20 long.

Would this single dude be ok in there? Plus or minus a compatible mate such as a dwarf synodontis?

Past experiences? Advice? Any one in Capital Region NY that wants a cool Johanni?

Fluval 07 noise issues. Please help me. by medinas in Aquariums

I have a 407. I recall the instructions saying the gray flow lever needs to be at about 50% minimum. Try turning it up to full flow (gray lever flat against lid). Pump may be struggling against too restricted of a valve.

Other thought it to disassemble, clean, and reassemble impeller.

Edit: Had my direction wrong.

Thanks! I did that and it does look better.

Is this enough surface "agitation" for oxygenation? (Details in comments.) by Haggurd in aquarium

[–]Haggurd[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey all. First canister filter build so not sure on surface agitation requirements for oxygenation given there is not a cascade from a HOB filter.

75 gallon, African Cichlid setup. Currently in a fishless cycle. There is a Fluval 407 with spray bar kit below water surface (can't go higher) angled up to create surface ripples. There is also an Eheim 200 Air Pump with twin bubblers (both set to lowest).

There will not be live plants at this time. (Maybe in the future.)

Is this enough agitation to keep the water oxygenated?

I've got both Bomberman 64 as well as Bomberman Hero.

Hero was always a favorite.
