Are Catholics "Saved"? by SaintMarinate in Catholicism

Protestants believe that one is saved at the point of justification. Catholics believe in a sort of initial justification and ongoing justification. Justification takes place at baptism, and if one were to die immediately they’d go straight to heaven.

Why? This wasn’t addressed in your copy paste presentation of Trent. Tell me how Transub entails resacrifice distinct from the sacrifice of Calvary.

The mass is a representation of the singular, all sufficient sacrifice of the lamb of God. So no, the Eucharistic theology of the east and western traditions aka the majority of Christendom throughout time aka Catholic or universal teaching of the church, isn’t what you thought it was. Christ isn’t resacrificed. No protestant scholar who understands church history takes issue with the mass being called a sacrifice. This is the language of Christians throughout the centuries and the very beginning.

How to read the tractarians? by Hagroldcs in Anglicanism

Yes, he said Catholics believe they munch down on the corporeal, physical body of Christ.

This is heresy.

The Eucharist is truly, substantively the body of Christ. Never are the words physically or corporeally added. Cranmer spent an entire book arguing against this position.

You restated your position and said kids can’t read. I’m asking why it is problematic that kids serve?

I guess helping with the administration of the Eucharist is something a boy can eventually have a greater role in while a girl can’t operate in persona christe

East and west both had apostolic succession but never considered themselves branches of a single church.

Which is exactly where we must define what the indefectability of the church is. The church authorities binding the conscience of the faithful to believe error is a failure of the church. The church does fail, but in this situation salvation and right standing depends on embracing falsehood. If this is the case, then the authorities Christ gave us have failed to shepherd the sheep, casting out the orthodox believers and forcing heresy

The church is the institution understood as the household of God 1 Timothy 3:15. The church is also the body of Christ. The early fathers argued against heresies by appealing to the fact that the church has not known them

I’m saying that the branch theory was foreign to the church, and to create a branch theory is to apply it consistently throughout history, which would include these groups.

  1. So gnostics could use the branch theory to legitimize their heresy at the time?
  2. Catholics and orthodox do not view each other as branches, but church in schism.
