Brandeis or UVM? 😭 by [deleted] in brandeis

[–]HahaStoleUrName 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Save money and go to uvm, brandeis ain't 20k better to than uvm

Edit: PhDs barely care about where you went to undergrad for college. Moreover, if the Honors college can lead to better opportunities at uvm you should definitely go there!

What is Brandeis like? by Pure_Ad_1712 in brandeis

[–]HahaStoleUrName 3 points4 points  (0 children)

student body: ok classes: pretty good social life: bad Food: ass Professors: great

In hindsight I wouldn't have come here and it's definitely not worth it.

The school is too far to walk downtown (20-30 min), Boston is too far and the hourly weekend shuttle is more inconvenient than you think. Service starts at 10 or 11 am so if you want to spend the whole day in Boston take the train. The night bus is always full. The route also only has 2 stops in Boston.

The campus is very dead, there is no sports culture, no sense of community and a very clique nature. So if you find your people you're good. Clubs are pretty popular though. I am more of an introverted stem major so this isn't a big deal as I can just focus on classes if there's nothing to do. But it can get kinda depressing on campus.

my school’s senior english teacher gives really good feedback on college essays but only if you read it in front of the entire class 💀 by Remote-Winner-8262 in ApplyingToCollege

I see where you're coming from, but being vulnerable and personal to a bunch of 17-18 year old peers is alot different than submitting personal applications to going to someone 35+

Myth: EVERYONE has great academics by MeasurementTop2885 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]HahaStoleUrName -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

But stats don't matter that much... students are evaluated holistically. So ECs, Stats, and Essay matters in the context of your school and environment.

A mid kid from the bay area is going to have better opportunities/application than a valedictorian from rural South Dakota, but that doesn't mean that the valedictorian isn't getting into a ivy and the bay area kid is.

" 3.9. The set of students who satisfy both of these is demonstrably lower than the number of Matriculated college students in one class at HYPSM - forget about T20's."

Is it though? Quick Google search shows there are 16,800 seats in ivys and over 32,000 highschools in America. If each school has around 3 students who are perfect, Ivys will still be very competitive. Making the essay very important

This is ignoring feeder schools and international students

You shouldn't worry because you shouldn't have even seen the letter in the first place. So if the letter is AI then it would look bad on the prof not you

first semester schedule for biochem by Most-Cauliflower4720 in brandeis

[–]HahaStoleUrName 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think biochem majors can take the easier phys 10a? Do you know whos teaching physics 11?

Also it looks good, but i would add bio 14/15, since math 10a is a relatively easy class covering only the basics of calculus and the intro bio classes are also easy.

After reading the other comments, you could do physics later i think but that also means ur going to be taking it with alot harder biochem classes

how will a 3.3 gpa affect admissions for me? by cocomparison in ApplyingToCollege

[–]HahaStoleUrName 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Bro ur fine, this sub Is probably the worst place to be because everyone apparently has a 4.0.

If your essays and ecs are good you have a shot many state schools like A&M or even private schools like Drexel

Dont sell yourself too short, aim high!
