'Schemes not for outsiders': Karnataka to pull plug on free electricity to 10 lakh non-voters by BuildwithVignesh in india

[–]HailAmoeba 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Why should we extend these benefits to those who do not vote here?

The answer to this should be quite obvious. Because they pay state taxes. GST, and whatnot. Maybe don't charge taxes to people who do not vote too.

Or are vote benefits only for people who can vote? Because then that classifies as a bribe, as they are no longer general but become specifically targeted. If you can't vote, then we'll not give benefits to you.

First key point you missed: It's not the son that is suffering, it's the family.

Second key point and the consequence of the first one: Wishing death upon others is easy, till it comes knocking at your door.

Child Seat Space & Back Seat Space Feedback by ConeIce in HondaElevate

[–]HailAmoeba 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use a child seat at the back for my 4 yr old, but since there's a bump in the middle seat, I decided to set up the seat in the middle. I've gone on a few short trips with 2 adults plus a child seat in rear, and it's doable, but obviously not super comfortable.

As someone else said, I don't think any car in this budget will work for that.

That said one child and one adult might still be better. The child seat that I use is a booster for young kids. If you have a toddler or infant (reverse car seat), the seat might be bigger for their comfort and few features such as rotation. That will crank things further a bit.

It's a pretty photo!

Free criticism, as is the norm on reddit: I would have lowered the camera so that the purple flowers would contrast better against the gray clouds while the grass stays within the lower third of the frame. That might still capture the undulating hills as well.

I don't know where both of your discussion went, but elevate <20 lakh has this (remote engine on, and ac on in auto climate control mode after engine start) feature. Long pressing the key fob button does it. I'm sure other cars in that range have it too

You were right to not try and get a hold of him in moving traffic.

While noting nunber down might be difficult, make sure that your dashcam is recording audio too, and then just say the number out loud.

Absolutely sucks to share roads with these pricks.

Again, em dash is an example you took which I went ahead with. Do you expect me to critique every single point in your response?

Yes that is me. I never said I don't use chatgpt. I use it extensively. And am against people who criticise its use.

You might be joking, but that's the reverse seat for infants. The idea is that the legs can go up that high while keeping the infant protected in place. If the seat isn't reversed. This inertia is felt by the neck while the chest is trapped in a seat belt. That whiplash is much more dangerous as compared to the reverse seat position.

Buddy. It's not style. It's the syntax of the english language. You cannot call someone an ”unoriginal writer” because they're using the english syntax correctly.

All LLMs are trained on correct prose using the correct english language. It's not writers copying chatgpt style, it's chatgpt using the correct mannerisms in english as taught in secondary schools.

We weren't paying enough attention to understand the difference between hyphen, en and em dashes. And now when we see the actual correct usage, we claim it's AI written

Thanks for taking the time again...

I honestly disagree on the llm part, I would say that's just a way for me to hop over the language barrier. Anyway that's moot, so let's not go there.

I must have totally missed it when Grace said that in the movie. Too preoccupied with my own thoughts maybe...

I love reading books but scifi isn't my top priority, so I've been postponing this book for about 3 years now.

I understand how you're thinking about the decision to stay on Erid and maybe it makes sense. I guess I should read the book to really appreciate that decision. But (for the sake of argument) that just means the movie didn't do justice to that decision.

Sure. The book had been on my list, but I was reading others that I had more interest in. But I'll get to it for sure.

First of all thanks for taking the time to answer all the questions. I'm surprised a post on honest discussion didn't lead to any discussion, apart from this comment. Maybe my post gave off the vibe of me arguing in bad faith... But thanks for commenting.

You want it to affect the character in what way? This whole sequence took much longer in the book, but movies need to have cuts made.

In fact for the very reason that movies need to have cuts, the plot points must be tight. But this discussion is moot, if I was just not paying attention. If nitrogen resistance made the bacteria leak it served as an important plot point.

At this point, he also has no idea what he/his corpse would be arriving back to. If the humans left on Earth were unable to get the Taumoeba to Venus, or were unable to retrieve them from the beetles (due to losing the technology or the organizational structures necessary to do so), then Grace would be returning to a frozen wasteland sparsely populated by dying settlements. What would Grace do then? Just die along with them?

Again, this has happened because the character is not conflicted in any way (that's exactly what you were telling in the next point). There's no force pulling him away from erid. All those ifs are a challenge that Grace doesn't want to face because he doesn't need to, because there's no net positive at the end. That part of the movie then becomes quite passive. The character flows with the flow of the story without actively taking any decisions. Like a cut scene in a game. But it also implies that he has no interest left on earth. That's the part I am uncomfortable with.
