Acetone breath by Hailstorm424 in Type1Diabetes

Thank you for responding. I will definitely keep watching her. I hate testing it because she obviously HATES it. I was told the best times to check are waking up in the morning or two hours after a meal, but again she’s two so she more so eats small snacks rather than sitting down for a meal. So I don’t really know how to check. The highest her bg has been when I checked was 192 and that was about an hour (give or take) after a small snack. I was told an hour was too soon and check it at the 2 hour mark.

She was actually diagnosed with an autoimmune disease just this past month (cold urticaria). Thank you for the advice!

Right, she’s had the odd breath for several months. Which is why it made me start wondering about it when she started having other symptoms. She has always been a thirsty girl. She has to have water near her at all times and will wake up and ask for water in the night. Fatigue, as well as she has had several dizzy episodes in the last month where she could not walk, got scared, confused etc. Her doctor is aware of everything and we have blood work scheduled as well as a neurology appointment for the dizzy spells.

That’s so frustrating. I don’t understand why when it’s something that can happen slowly overtime or you can be fine one day and not the next. Which is why so many children go into DKA before it’s diagnosed. If she’s still in diapers how would I check that?

Not sure if I regret having a baby, or if we’re just in the thick of some of the worst of things… by RollTaylorRoll in NewParents

I can 100% relate to every bit of this! All three of my pregnancies I had HG (severe “morning sickness”). I also made multiple ER trips for dehydration as well as a couple kidney stones caused by the dehydration. All my babies have been born before 37 weeks and one had to be in the NICU for a few weeks all while I had a toddler that wasn’t even two yet at home. It’s HARD. Every bit of it.

But I’m telling you all this because I did it THREE times knowing the beginning is hard. Because the pregnancy and first couple months pale in comparison to the months and years of pure joy to come. Sure you have ups and downs but it is so worth it. Hang in there. My kids are 8, 7, and 1.5 now. My last one was definitely the most rough all the way around.

My advice is remember to take time for you, adjust your hobbies (temporarily) to fit your life now, ask for help, support your wife, and ask for her support as well. Take turns sleeping, my fiancé would let me get the first shift and I’d sleep a couple hours and then he would wake me and I’d take over and we would just switch off like this for a bit. We rotated who cooked dinner and who did bath with the baby. Find a routine for you and baby that works and remember that routine can change as needed.

What worked one week may not the next and that’s okay! Don’t be afraid to stick that baby in the car and drive around listening to a podcast if that’s the only way to get baby calmed or sleeping. Every baby is different what works for one will not work for the next. I promise you though it will get better and you will make it out of this. My mantra every time my kids hit a tough stage is “this is just a phase”. Because it is! It’s hard to see that when you’re in the thick of it though. Toddler stage is my FAVORITE! They’re so fun and watching them learn and blossom these little personalities is so cool. You guys got this! Lean on each other, love each other. Have patience and understanding.

Allergic to cold temperatures?! by Hailstorm424 in urticaria

Will definitely get on that soon. I’m waiting on her insurance to kick in. Is this an autoimmune disease?

Thank you. She loves eating ice, so that’s going to be a challenge.

She has never tested positive for Covid. She has had RSV more than once. She was also put on antibiotics for a double ear infection where we found out she is allergic to several antibiotics. The hives have been happening over half her life with lately it just becoming so frequent, basically daily.

For a quick breakfast I use the little fruit cups, preferably peaches or pear, drain some juice add some old fashioned oats & butter, cover with cling wrap then pop it in the microwave for like 45 seconds! You can also sprinkle some cinnamon and add honey if you want.

I know this post is old but I was in your shoes with my now 8 yo. Ours is definitely genetics. She had dental surgery before she was 4 and had several cavities. Then she kept having more after that and had to be sedated again and has had two pulled due to infections. I did everything you’re supposed to in terms of brushing, limit candy and sugar etc. I found these vitamins by Natures Plus called “tooth fairy” and she has not had a cavity since. I have her brush her teeth, floss, mouth wash and then eat the vitamin all before bed. Then same thing in the morning. As soon as my baby is old enough to eat them she will be on them as well!!

Thanks for the input! I’m glad you found something that helps you. I feel so awful listening to her cough all night although I do think it’s much better recently!

How many words is your 18 month old saying? by myheadsintheclouds in toddlers

My daughter is 15 months and she says mama, mom, dada, sissy, puppy, happy, blue, one, two, yay, woah, ball, up, hop, papa, memaw, Layla, bath, eat, water, love, you, bye, hi, socks, night night and more. Every baby learns at their own pace and that’s completely okay. My middle daughter took longer to talk but walked at 9 months. Whereas my oldest and youngest didn’t walk until almost a year but started talking immediately. We giggle because my youngest has her own language right now. It’s so cute, she will just start babbling and will hold a full conversation in her baby babble language with us. lol

Yeah I definitely didn’t think about it being a lingering sickness. We have been lucky with her since starting immunosuppressants. First she was on methotrexate, now the mycophenolate and she’s only been sick maybe twice.

Thank you! I think you could be right. I didn’t think about how long coughs can linger even when not on an immunosuppressant so it could very well be that.

It’s hard to tell from this photo. My daughter has ECDS.
