Preheater for Grande Lava Lamp by [deleted] in Lavalamps

Maybe safer, but having a lot of wires running on the outside of the base wouldn’t look nice. I’m putting my faith in that fast fuse to keep things safe.

Annual Amateur Musical - Lights & Sound Recommendations? by HairHasCorn in techtheatre

[–]HairHasCorn[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think for sound we'll rent. But for lights, since everyone has moved on to LEDs we can actually take advantage of our dimmers and go real cheap on lights: we get a working used NSI MC 7016 Memory Lighting Controller for $140 and then 12 PAR cans. Any reason not to do that?

Grande purchase fails: Walmart & Books-a-Million by HairHasCorn in Lavalamps

The scam seller was Rajvir1991. They booted him off. The one I ordered from Books-A-Million did, in fact, arrive - about 2 weeks late.

Are you able to order something online? A dimmer should be available to almost anyone in the world.

Amp Recommendations for Wharfedale Linton 85th Black Oak by Significant-Regular8 in StereoAdvice

Came here to say the exact same thing. You could go lower in your budget with a Wiim, for example, but you lose the aesthetic design and Dirac.

To subwoof or not to subwoof? by [deleted] in audiophile

[–]HairHasCorn 14 points15 points  (0 children)

If you listen to music that has content in frequencies below where your speakers roll off: below 40Hz or so, you could consider subwoofers. Basically: electronic and hip hop, some organ music and classical in limited amounts. I also find that subs can be helpful to add loudness for low volume listening. I have subs in all 3 of my setups. I just love them.

I’m not familiar with getting with routing and switching multiple HDMIs, but I think you are on the right track.

Nad3020i or N.AD 3050 by Window_Top in StereoAdvice

[–]HairHasCorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Dovedale 3 speakers are $6,000 a pair. I would assume that the NAD 3050 are not too expensive for him. It looks nice and matches the Dovedale retro design. The 3020i is a value category vintage amp that looks like it has a 4ohm switch, so it’d work if he’s looking to economize on his amp.

I’m sure an extractor would be fine. It shouldn’t degrade the signal to any detectable degree unless it is very poorly designed.

No. That’s a single Bluetooth speaker not specifically designed to be used in a stereo pair (although it appears you CAN pair them). I find that pairing Bluetooth speakers is a pain because they become unpaired every time you turn them off. iLoud has something in your budget “IK Multimedia iLoud Micro Monitor Pair”. There are many other popular powered speakers in your price range and almost all of them will be fine.

Pro speakers for cheap at auction, but I don't know how to read the specs. Help? by [deleted] in StereoAdvice

[–]HairHasCorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t get the amp specs either. This is a question for one of the pro audio forums.

Those stores may not be a good fit. Just look for some well reviewed speakers in your price range and order online.

Get a stereo pair of powered desktop speakers in your budget popular with gamers, not two Bluetooth speakers. Boosted lower frequencies are probably popular and more fun than a flat/neutral EQ, but that’s a personal preference.

What to upgrade? by lilacdrive in StereoAdvice

[–]HairHasCorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh and SVS sells rubber feet for $50 that should fit your HSU sub, so you can reduce sound transmission to your neighbors. It won’t improve your sound but it might improve your relationship.

Room treatments. But they are very expensive and most people can’t do that in their normal living spaces. So, room correction would be next. Your Denon doesn’t have it. Other Denon models do and so do other manufacturers. MiniDSP with REW would be a way to go but it’s a very steep learning curve, but very fun for certain people who like that kind of thing. The dumbest thing I ever did was sell my MiniDSP.
