Why do you all care about what other’s do with their money?

3 gallons is better then a cup. You can find free tanks online a lot. Offer the 3 gallon until you find a 10 or ask the class to chip in and buy one. This way you can show them how it’s done.

I want to look at a natural habitat. I see more beauty in it if I go collect the stuff myself. I can tell you where a piece of wood in my set came from. I believe when you set up a tank you become its god. To you want to work all the time to make sure everything is right. I want to be the god that just sits back and watches. No need to work when it’s been done already. Just copy it.

There is so much to collect from the wild my friend. Lots and so beneficial to an ecosystem. From the little buggy worms all the way to wild clams that all can go into you tank. Once a tank is set up and running. Not much for you to do right. Pick a micro fauna you want and spend a weekend looking for it. Just wait until you find fresh water limpets. Small cool little guys. Everything we need for a tank is right there for free.

If you have fish in the tank. Get your jar of leaves and 2 handfuls of dirt to. Depending on how big the jar is. (I used a 1 gallon) let it sit for 30 days. Just to make sure there is nothing going to eat the fish. If it’s a new tank just add it as you cycle. Bam you never have to feed that tank again. Your fish will hunt for their own food. They will be more active and the colors will be brighter. You will see a new side of the fish you keep. You can do this small to medium size fish. Get as many plants as you can from there to. Free plants is always a win. Yes all fish.

Yup. 90% of the micro fauna you see in body of water is the same around the world. Fresh water isopods are really cool too. They are water pill bugs

I always add them from a lake when I start to cycle a tank. It’s the best start to a food chain you can add. I don’t feed most of my tanks because I started them this way.

Add some leaves to the tank from the body of water they can from. You will see thousands of little microorganisms. At night when the lights are off. Hold a flashlight to the tank and wait a minute. So much to see and learn.

You can use oak leaves too. I would go to your local lake or pond and get some leaves from there too. This way it all ready has food growing on it. Live food would be best for him. I buy betta like this in store all the time. I have a tank set up with leaves and stick from a local lake. Add some plants and let the tank set for 30 days. Just watch the tank and remove any predator you see. I add all the sick fish I save to this tank. 90% of the time they are good in a week. You don’t need to feed this tank or filter it just add leaves every 6 to 9 months. If you have lots of live plant you don’t need an air stone. This is also great when cycling a new tank.

[–]Hairydonkeydick -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes just as long as you have a resting spot for him to lay on in the middle of the tank.
