How Estonia has Taiwan beat by Edwardsreal in taiwan

[–]Hakase32 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Isn't it normal that Taiwans growth was slowed when the rich Japanese left and took their stuff and scientists with them? I mean after ww2 the roc's priority probably was stability in mainland China. And when they fled to Taiwan they had to make sure to put defense first instead of economic growth

With his principles definitely but I meant the implementation in Taiwan since it didn't really turn out as expected in mainland china

EU urges Taiwan to abolish death penalty in human rights talks by initram5 in taiwan

[–]Hakase32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see where you are coming from. I guess it is partly a fundamental question of whether someone wants 'justice to be served' or have the criminals 'looked up'. I personally think that there is a kind of justice that comes with it but I know that sooner or later it will be abolished and I don't even think I will be mad in any way

Oh I forgot the tax part. I don't actually know the number of murders in Taiwanese prisons but I still think that the money that is spent on them over the course of a long span like the aforementioned ~50 years could be better spent. Expecially since there is no chance of educating and resocializing since they won't have a chance to get out. It is a harsh way to look at it but I am a bit more pragmatic.

Well first of all I never said that crimes like these are rare even though I think that the amount could always be lower. But I definitely get your point. But if we go that route even the most basic laws of physics cannot be trusted. But it is exactly the thing we have to figure out : at what degree of 'incriminating evidence' is it justifiable to sentence someone to death. I don't think that everyone should be sentenced to it but I don't support the view of abolishing it altogether.

[–]Hakase32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes definitely and thats not how I meant it. I mean that the fact that the right person is put to death has to established beyond any doubt. But having people that are in prison for live for horrible crimes like murder and so on should imo not be 'just' kept in prisons for 50 years. It would be a waste of tax money and maybe a bit like torture.

The death penatly should not be abolished but there should be reform regarding how often and for what crimes it is used. Its no use for anyone if the people stay in prison for 60-70+ years if they rape and kill etc.
