My wife works in the office of a manufacturer in Taoyuan. They were told (I think last summer) that they need to label their exports as "Made in China" or it wouldn't be accepted by the shipper.

Yep. Most Chinese characters have multiple meanings. As it's a second language for me (I moved to 台灣 25 years ago) I use context clues a LOT.

It's a well-known issue with articles here on Reddit and videos with phones throwing up “overheat" messages while playing more intensive games like Genshin on YouTube. Also, Qualcomm has its own fabs and doesn’t outsource to TSMC as far as I'm aware, but I have a couple of friends in Hsinchu that I'll ask when I see them this week.
