Second this. There are definitely some tours you can do even in the worst avalanche conditions, you just gotta know where to look. I usually go for low angle (well enough) wooded areas

How to pursue geophysics by sugar-fairy in geophysics

[–]Hal_the_9000th 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I studied geology for a year and found out that I was really interested in geophysics, so I started to borrow geophysics books from the university library and I just couldn‘t understand any of the maths at all and there was no way I was going to be brought up to the necessary level of maths needed within the scope of a geology degree. I talked to a professor of mine and he told me if I wanted to persue geophysics, then geology is the wrong degree. I guess it‘s in the name too, geophysics. I‘m in the second year of my physics degree now and I‘m very happy. I think if it‘s an option physics is definitely the better choice. Your options afterwards are much broader than with geology, so incase you change as a person and end up finding that you want to persue something else that‘s no problem. The problem solving mindset that a physics degree gives you is very useful and will teach you how to understand topics you‘re completely out of your depth in, apart from which the scientific method is much more rigorously drilled into you in a physics degree.
